The Herd rumbles past Portville/C-R/B-R in C South

CUBA -- Falconer/Cassadaga Valley/Maple Grove's Dylan Newman scored the final three touchdowns of the game, including two in the fourth quarter, to rally past Portville/Cuba-Rushford/Bolivar-Richburg for a 26-12 Class C South victory Friday.

The teams were tied 6-6 at halftime before Portville/Cuba-Rushford/Bolivar-Richburg took a 12-6 lead on Liam Taylor's 5-yard touchdown run in the third quarter.

But the Herd (3-1, 2-0) answered when Newman scored on a 24-yard run and Ethan Conti added the 2-point conversion for a 14-12 lead. Then, in the fourth quarter, Newman scored on a 3-yard run before returning an interception 36 yards for the final points of the game.

Falconer/Cassadaga Valley/Maple Grove ran 32 times for just 128 yards, but won the turnover battle 3-2.

Taylor ran 19 times for 143 yards and a score while Hayden Schappacher ran 17 times for 77 yards. Peyton Carter also had six carries for 37 yards and a touchdown for the Panthers (3-1, 1-1).

CARDINALS DOWN WARRIORS

RANDOLPH -- Randolph scored 21 second-half points to pull away from Salamanca to secure a 28-7 nonleague victory at Raymond Van Wie Stadium.

Davion Johnson connected with his brother Syrai Johnson twice through the air for a 28-yard touchdown and a 45-yard touchdown in the second half, lifting the Cardinals (3-1) to victory. Davion finished the game 8 of 10 for 164 yards and the two touchdowns, while also rushing for 33 yards.

Alexander Garland scored the other two touchdowns for Randolph on the ground, amassing 103 yards on 18 attempts with scores from 1 yard and 16 yards. Syrai Johnson finished the game with 127 yards receiving on four catches, Carter Conley added three more receptions for 33 yards and Grady Huntington reeled in two for 13 yards.

The Randolph defense picked off Salamanca three times with Huntington, Garland and Hayden Bruyere grabbing one each.

Salamanca (1-3) scored its lone touchdown in the second quarter with Conner Seeley reaching paydirt from four yards out. Seeley led the ground attack for the Warriors with 62 yards on 13 carries and Gibson Prey added another 45 yards on two rushes.

4TH-QUARTER TD SEALS VICTORY

SOUTH DAYTON -- Zane Rogers ran 17 times for 176 yards and a touchdown while Jayden Fish completed nine passes for 98 yards and two scores as Gowanda/Pine Valley beat Southwestern/Frewsburg 22-16 in Class C South action.

Kyan Austin caught three passes with two of them going for scores for the Panthers (2-2, 1-2).

Isaiah Washington was in on nine tackles while Elliot Graham had five tackles, including a sack, in the win.

Connor Campion led Southwestern/Frewsburg (0-4, 0-3) with 17 carries for 106 yards while Beckstrom ran 11 times for 77 yards and a touchdown.

Zach Markham was in on 12 tackles and Aiden Cusimano was in on seven while Miles Torres and Joey Sirianni each had an interception for the guests.

SANCHEZ SCORES 4 TIMES

CATTARAUGUS -- Manny Sanchez ran for four touchdowns in Silver Creek/Forestville's 40-12 Class D win over Cattaraugus-Little Valley.

Will Duliba threw a 16-yard touchdown pass to Dom Anders and Andrew Arnold also scored on a 1-yard run for the Black Knights (2-2, 1-1).

The Timberwolves fell to 0-4 overall and 0-2 in the league.

NEWFANE HOLDS OFF TITANS

NEWFANE -- Newfane jumped on Franklinville/Ellicottville early and cruised to a 40-18 Class D victory.

Brady Tatlow went 10 of 21 through the air for the Titans with 87 yards and one touchdown, then rushed 11 times for 36 yards and a score.

Sawyer Miller was the top target for Franklinville/Ellicottville (2-2, 1-2) pulling in six catches for 62 yards and a touchdown. Grayson Neal added another three catches for 23 yards and Rylan Benjamin caught one pass. Blake Smith did the lifting on the ground for the Titans with 14 carries and 78 yards, while it was Benjamin reaching paydirt on one of his two carries for 20 total yards.

Franklinville/Ellicottville had a flurry of tackles on defense with Brodie Latimer making six with one for loss, Carson Mendell added another six, Brenden MacWilliams had five tackles and a fumble recovery, Zach Brennan made two tackles for a loss, Coleman Milks had a fumble recovery and Benjamin earned a sack.

Newfane improved to 3-1 overall and 2-1 in Class D.
