LACKAWANNA -- Dunkirk scored all the points it needed in the first half and held on to beat Lackawanna 22-20 in Section VI Class B2 football action on Saturday.
Dunkirk (1-2, 1-2) freshman Jordan Thomas Smith had a game to remember with three touchdowns including one on a 75-yard kick return. Thomas Smith then forced two turnovers on the defensive side of the ball as the Marauders held off the Steelers (1-2, 1-1) for their first win of the season.
CARDINALS SUFFER FIRST SETBACK
LANCASTER -- Ethan Morris finished off an 89-yard catch and run in the fourth quarter to send St. Mary's of Lancaster past Randolph 26-20 in nonleague action on Saturday.
Randolph and St. Mary's exchanged scores all game, but it was the Lancers getting the final points with the Morris touchdown.
The Cardinals benefitted from the Johnson connection with Davion Johnson hitting Syrai Johnson for two touchdown passes in the second half. Syrai first reeled in a 6-yard pass in the third quarter and then caught a 26-yard touchdown in the fourth.
Davion Johnson got the Cardinals on the board in the second quarter with a 7-yard rush for paydirt. Johnson finished the game 3 of 8 through the air for 55 yards and two touchdowns and then on the ground he added 58 yards. Randolph (2-1, 2-0) was led in total yards by Alex Garland in the backfield with 120 yards on 17 carries.
