CANANDAIGUA -- The Jamestown Community College women’s soccer team moved to 2-0 with a 4-0 win over Finger Lakes CC on Wednesday.
The Jayhawks peppered the Lakers goalie early and often in the Region 3 showdown. Jamestown CC racked up 13 shots on goal in the first half, but was only able to break through once. That tally came off the foot of Sikhona Msebi (Mthatha, South Africa / St. Patrick’s College) in the 15th minute.
On the other side of the pitch, Angel Busch (Westfield /Westfield) kept Finger Lakes off the scoreboard throughout, facing three shots in the first half to send the game to halftime with Jamestown CC up 1-0.
The Jayhawks broke the game open midway through the second half. It started when Avery Johnson (Lakewood/ Southwestern) scored her fourth goal of the season in the 61st minute to put Jamestown CC up 2-0.
Kaylyn Carnes (Celoron/Southwestern) made it a three-goal advantage just seven minutes later, scoring her first of twog. The freshman also found the back of the net in the 82nd minutes for the 4-0 lead.
In all, the Jayhawks took 27 shots on goal from nine different players.
Jamestown CC now has a week off before it returns to the road for a conference confrontation at Erie CC on Sept. 7, at 7 p.m.
