Bennett too much for Red & Green

Hampton accounts for 5 TDs in 50-21 Class AA victory

BUFFALO -- Explosive plays from Bennett's special teams and defense started the game.

The Tigers offense ended it.

Dontre Hampton ran for over 200 yards and scored five touchdowns as Bennett beat Jamestown 50-21 in a Class AA contest Friday at Robert R. Rich All High Stadium.

The Tigers, who lost to St. Francis 53-20 at the University at Buffalo to open the season, then went to Washington, D.C., and lost to Saint John's 55-0, got into the win column in a big way.

Bennett's first drive of the game ended when Hampton raced 61 yards on a fake punt for a touchdown and a 6-0 lead less than six minutes into the game.

Five plays into Jamestown's ensuing drive, Hampton intercepted a pass and returned it 56 yards for a score to make it 12-0.

The Red & Green stayed in the game, courtesy of a 13-yard scoring connection from Jackson Grey to Alaric Richards on their next possession. The drive was aided by a 37-yard catch off a deflection by Karson Milne on second-and-10 from the 48-yard line.

But the Tigers scored the next two touchdowns, first on an 8-yard run by Elisha Whitfield and then on a 47-yard passing play from Darryl Williams to Tyzjon Johnson that made it 26-8 with 4:24 left in the first half.

Grey threw a 7-yard touchdown to Milne with 17 seconds remaining in the second quarter, but Hampton put the game away with touchdown runs of 16, 8 and 28 runs in the second half.

Bennett will take on Health Sciences next Friday at Buffalo State University while Jamestown returns home to take on Niagara Falls that same night at Strider Field.

EAGLES DEFENSE STYMIES WARRIORS

SALAMANCA -- Chautauqua Lake/Westfield/Brocton forced seven turnovers and held Salamanca to just 55 yards of offense en route to a 34-0 Class C South victory at Veterans Memorial Park.

Josh Swan led the Eagles offensively with 12 completions for 111 yards and three touchdowns. Ian Kindermann caught three passes for 46 yards and two touchdowns while Aiden Woodis had four catches for 33 yards.

Tristen Gibbs led Chautauqua Lake/Westfield/Brocton (2-1, 2-0) on the ground with 18 carries for 53 yards and two touchdowns.

Defensively, Gibbs was in on 11 tackles and forced a fumble while Lance Franklin was in on eight tackles. Thandon Bensink and Lane Scarpine each recovered a pair of fumbles while Kindermann intercepted two passes and Woodis intercepted one. Chase Houser chipped in a sack.

Gibbs ran for a 10-yard score and Kindermann caught a 14-yard touchdown from Swan in the first quarter. Before halftime, Scarpine caught a 5-yard touchdown from Swan and Gibbs ran for a 2-yard score. The only touchdown of the second half was a 21-yard connection from Swan to Kindermann.

The Warriors fell to 1-2 overall and 1-1 in the league.

TITANS TAKE CARE OF T'WOLVES

ELLICOTTVILLE -- Brady Tatlow went 11 of 14 for 245 yards and a touchdown to lead Franklinville/Ellicottville past Cattaraugus-Little Valley 47-16 in Class D action.

Blake Smith led the Titans (2-1, 1-1) on the ground with 12 carries for 89 yards and three touchdowns. Tatlow, Rylan Benjamin and Carson Mendell each added a rushing touchdown.

Smith had two catches for 48 yards and a touchdown, Benjamin caught four passes for 72 yards, Sawyer Miller caught two passes for 73 yards, Grayson Neal had two catches for 18 yards and Mendell had two catches for 34 yards.

Smith's 21-yard rushing touchdown gave Franklinville/Ellicottville a 6-0 lead after the first quarter.

Smith ran for a 2-yard score, Mendell ran for a 1-yard score and Tatlow connected with Smith on a 14-yard score before halftime as the Titans led 26-16.

In the third quarter, Smith ran for a 6-yard touchdown.

Leading 34-16 entering the final 12 minutes, Tatlow added a 16-yard score and Benjamin tacked on a 3-yard score.

The Timberwolves fell to 0-3 overall and 0-1 in the league.

PUNT RETURN HOLDS UP AS WINNING SCORE

FREWSBURG -- Greg Peck returned a punt 68 yards for a touchdown in the third quarter as Allegany-Limestone/Hinsdale beat Southwestern/Frewsburg 8-6 in Class C South play.

The Gators (2-1, 1-1) converted the 2-point conversion run to make it 8-0.

The Trojans (0-3, 0-2) answered with Connor Campion's 1-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter, but the 2-point try failed, leaving Allegany-Limestone/Hinsdale in the lead.

Drake Beckstrom completed nine passes for 71 yards through the air for Southwestern/Frewsburg. Campion led the Trojans with 10 carries for 41 yards on the ground.

Zach Markham led Southwestern/Frewsburg defensively with eight tackles, including one for a loss. Noah Brown forced a fumble, which was recovered by Frankie Zavala.
