Battle of the Businesses begins with softball and disc golf

Cummins (200 points) and tied competitors Jamestown Bar Association/City Court (180) and New Flyer (180) are the leaders so far in the 38th Annual YMCA Battle of the Businesses after Saturday's softball tournament and disc golf events.

Large Division competitor Cummins took the first-place win in the softball tournament at Bergman Park.

The team consisted of Joe Coccarelli, Charity Crossly, Alex Crowell, Luis Davila, Miguel Evangelista, Jacob Gray, Shane Lindstrom, Jalen Matve, Travis Melquist, Cody Nelson, Abbey Pajersky, Keith Piper, Shawn Wilson and Jon Youngberg.

SKF and Frewsburg Central School went home with second and third place, respectively. The small division softball event win at Jones Park was captured by Children's Educational Services/Rehabilitation Specialists with Emiley Anderson, Hailey Anderson, Jen Anderson, Sara Berg, Stefanie Best, Brady Collver, Zachary Heberlein, Dustin Hendrix, Jon Lewis, Ashley Lundmark and Macy Youngberg. The team was treated to complimentary ice cream by team captain Jen Anderson.

Second and third place were awarded to Jamestown Bar Association/City Court and Artone.

The disc golf competition at Bergman Park was managed by volunteer disc golf enthusiast Frank Besse.

Large Division competitor Cummins was the victor with Chris Branstrom and Dustin Botzenmayer with a score of 25 followed by SKF USA and The Resource Center.

In the small division for the third year in a row, Trinity Biotech/Greater Chautauqua Federal Credit Union's Art Faix and Gerri Mueller finished on top (26) with New Flyer and Spectrum Eyecare finishing in second and third place, respectively.

Today’s events include the small division co-ed volleyball at the Jamestown YMCA at 6 p.m., large division curling at the Northwest Arena at 6 p.m. and the 200-yard freestyle swim at the JCC YMCA Pool for both divisions.

The Battle is sponsored by Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield, Greater Chautauqua Federal Credit Union and Eventz by Scott.
