Health Sciences\\\\\\\' size, strength, speed too much for Red & Green

Early in the third quarter of Friday night's Class AA football game at Strider Field, a lone voice from the Jamestown sideline implored his defense with three words:
"C'mon," head coach Tom Langworthy yelled, "fight, fight."
The Red & Green did as instructed, but Health Sciences had already delivered the figurative knockout punch.
The Falcons scored three touchdowns in eight minutes spanning the second and third periods to help build a huge lead en route to a 46-21 victory over Jamestown.
Carmello Weatherspoon's 21-yard touchdown run, Isaiah Guerrero's 35-yard fumble recovery for a score; and Dominik Wakefield's 1-yard TD burst transformed a 14-7 Health Sciences lead with under five minutes remaining before intermission into a 38-7 advantage just over three minutes into the second half.
"We definitely showed a little bit of our youth tonight at times," Langworthy said. "I think that hurt us. ... The last five or six minutes of the second quarter weren't good to us. ... We want that back."
The Falcons, who lost their season opener to Canisius 41-14 last week, showed few weaknesses in raising their record to 1-1 overall and 1-0 in the division.
"They had size, strength, speed, and athletically they were very good," Langworthy said. "They didn't make a ton of mistakes. They were big up front; they had speed on the perimeter; and power up inside."
Leading the way was sophomore running back Terrance Shuford, who rushed for 168 yards on 19 carries. Amare Ridgeway added a pair of short touchdown runs, and Nathan Lewis had a 25-yard pick-six before the game was even two minutes old. Added together, it was too much for the Red & Green (1-1, 1-0) to overcome.
Alaric Richards was the primary offensive threat for the hosts, rushing for 95 yards on 20 carries and had TD runs of 47 and 16 yards. Kam Monroe added 43 yards on six carries and a 14-yard touchdown burst, but it wasn't enough to overcome a very talented Falcons' squad.
"You want to win each week, but whether you win or not you want to get better each week," Langworthy said. "We didn't get the win tonight, but we want to get better. We have a long season ahead of us and we want to be able to grow from this."
Jamestown will be back in action next Friday when it travels to Bennett. Health Sciences, meanwhile, will be on the road again, this time against Lancaster.
