The Jamestown Community College hockey team opened the home portion of its schedule in front of a packed house at Northwest Arena on Saturday night.
Jamestown CC skated to a 5-3 win over Jefferson CC, but things didn’t always look like the Jayhawks were destined for victory.
Jefferson CC opened the game with a 2-0 edge after scoring a pair in the first period to send Jamestown CC to the locker room trailing by two.
The second period was when the green and gold started to turn things around, beginning with Bergan Nelson lighting the lamp on a pass from Carson Olson at the 8:25 mark to get Jamestown on the board at 2-1.
Jamestown CC found the game-tying goal just before the second period ended when Nelson was the one handing out the assist to Christian Greaves for a 2-2 score going to the second intermission.
The floodgates remained open in the third, when Noah Kellogg picked up where he left off last year by tickling the twine for a 3-2 Jayhawks lead, one they would never surrender.
Jamestown kept the throttle down, getting goals from Garret Greaves and Christian Greaves to push the advantage to 5-2 with just under five minutes to play.
Jefferson CC added a late goal for the 5-3 home team victory.
This win moves the Jayhawks to 2-1-1 on the season.
Jamestown CC is back on home ice next Saturday when they host Niagara University for Pink the Rink night at 7 p.m.
