By Scott Kindberg and Christian Storms 8 min read

Ian Muniz grounded a single to center field with one out in the bottom of the eighth inning to score Arnaldo Duran and send Puerto Rico to a 7-6 victory over Woodland, Washington in the nightcap of the Babe Ruth 13-year-old World Series on Monday at Diethrick Park.

The win improved Puerto Rico's record to 1-2, while Woodland, the Pacific Northwest Regional champions, dropped to 0-2.

Zabiel Lugo was the winning pitcher in relief of starter Justin Torres, who worked the first seven innings. Lincoln Horn, who pitched the final five innings, took the loss in relief of starter Jason Kain.

Woodland opened the scoring with three runs in the top of the first inning, highlighted by an RBI double by Cooper Ginter and a run-scoring single by Drake Nguyen, but Puerto Rico tallied five runs in the third, highlighted by a two-run double by Gabriel Terron and an RBI single by Jersuhann Negron.

The lead didn't last long as Woodland scored twice in the fourth as Karlie Boc's bunt resulted in a pair of runs crossing the plate to tie the game 5-5. The Pacific Northwest Regional champs went ahead in the top of the sixth on Ruxson Guarjardo pinch-hit single, but Puerto Rico answered with an unearned run in the bottom of the inning.

After a scoreless seventh, the game went to extra innings with a ghost runner at second base. Woodland failed to score in the top of the frame and Puerto Rico won in a walk-off in the bottom half, thanks to Muniz's heroics.

Duran and Negron had two hits apiece for the winners, while Keithan Woody had a pair for Woodland.

Muniz and Woody were the Ron Tellefsen Players of the Game.

Puerto Rico will be back in action at 4:30 p.m today against New England Regional champion Bethel, Connecticut. Woodland, meanwhile, will meet Mid-Atlantic Regional champ Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey at 1:30 p.m.

NEW JERSEY 12, CONNECTICUT 0

Atlantic Shore, New Jersey's RJ Scattone gave up three singles in the first inning against Bethel, Connecticut to load the bases in the first inning of Game 9 at the Babe Ruth 13-year-old World Series. A fly ball to left field got the Middle Atlantic Region Champions out of trouble in the first and Scattone did not give up another hit as his teammates connected for 10 hits and 12 runs in five innings to earn the 12-0 mercy-rule victory in National League action at Diethrick Park on Monday morning.

Scattone earned the Ron Tellefsen Player of the Game for his team as he gave up just three hits in four innings on the bump and struck out a pair of batters while his team faced two more than the minimum of batters in a five-inning contest.

Scattone's teammates made it an easy day on the mound providing plenty of run support including a three-run first inning with the first four batters hitting singles. Hits came from Cole Leusner, Landon Gracia, Nick Gelegonya and Gavin Colon with an RBI single as Leusner and Gracia scored on consecutive wild pitches.

After an RBI double from Gracia in the second inning, Atlantic Shore, New Jersey blew the game open in the bottom of the third plating an additional six runs. The big connection came from Gracia again, but with a little help from the sun as his deep fly into left field caused an error that cleared the bases and put the Middle Atlantic Region Champions up 9-0. Gracia was then hit home by a double from Gelegonya.

Leusner finished 2 for 3 with an RBI, Gracia hit 2 for 3 with an RBI double, Gelegonya ended 2 for 3 with a double, Liam Higginbottom hit a double and both Owen Perez and Joey Gonzalez added RBI singles.

Bethel, Connecticut's opening contest started strong with the three singles, but was downhill from there. Earning the Ron Tellefsen Player of the Game for the New England Region Champions was Josh Brewster who finished 1 for 2 and reached base for the second time on a fielder's choice after beating out the double play in the top of the fourth.

Atlantic Shore, New Jersey (2-0) is back in action on Tuesday against Woodland, Washington at 1:30 p.m., while Bethel, Connecticut (0-1) is up against Puerto Rico at 4:30 p.m.

WISCONSIN 2, MISSOURI 1

In the bottom of the sixth inning of Game 11 at the Babe Ruth 13-year-old World Series, Janesville, Wisconsin's Eli Mosley had an opportunity to become the insurance run his team needed in the bottom of the sixth inning leading Southeast, Missouri 1-0. However, Mosley was picked off at second base just minutes after stealing the bag for a spot in scoring position.

Southeast, Missouri tied the game in the top of the seventh and then in the bottom half Mosley had the opportunity to change the game at the plate with Cade James at second base with two outs. After working a full count in which he fouled off several pitches, Mosley redeemed himself with a bullet single to right field that scored James for the 2-1 American Division walk-off victory on Monday afternoon at Diethrick Park in Jamestown.

Hitting 3 for 4 at the plate with a double and RBI single that won the game, Mosley was selected as the Ron Tellefsen Player of the Game as Janesville, Wisconsin improved to 2-1 in the division.

James was another worthy nod as Player of the Game for Janesville, Wisconsin as he went the distance on the bump with a complete game in which he gave up just one earned run and six hits with three strikeouts. James also worked an RBI walk in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Janesville, Wisconsin finally broke the scoreless tie in its fifth trip to the plate and it all started with Graham Miller's leadoff single. Colton Lund sacrificed Miller to scoring position and was followed by a walk from Jordan Timm. The pressure really was on after a wild pitch moved both runners into scoring position with just one out.

Southeast, Missouri nearly got out of the jam as Lucas Martin bunted into a fielder's choice that got Miller out in a close play at home. However, the Mid-West Plains Regional Champions could not get out of the inning unscathed with two consecutive walks by Russell Tourdot and then James driving in Timm for the first run of the contest.

The Ohio Valley Regional Champions looked to add an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth, but Southeast, Missouri kept them off the board and made it hurt even more in the top of the seventh.

Desperately needing a run, Mason Balsman got things started off the right way for Southeast, Missouri with a single and was promptly put into scoring position with a steal then moved to third via sacrifice bunt by Eli Horrell.

Janesville, Wisconsin nearly got out of the jam with an infield pop out the following at bat which brought up the 1 and 3 Drake Ritter who had previously struck out in his last appearance. Ritter did not miss the last pitch he saw on Monday, connecting when it counted with a perfectly placed single into shallow left field that brought home Balsman and tied the game 1-1.

Janesville, Wisconsin escaped without any further damage and it got right back to work with the seventh lining up perfectly for the team's hottest hitter to approach the plate with an opportunity to win the game. Mosley's walk-off single improved Janesville, Wisconsin's record to 2-1 in the division, matching the victory over Southeast, Missouri.

Kayson Bauwens earned the Ron Tellefsen Player of the Game for the Mid-West Plains Regional Champions after a terrific start on the hill in which he gave up just four hits and struck out three batters while allowing one earned run in five innings of action.

Ritter had the only multi-hit performance for Southeast, Missouri, while Graham Miller joined Mosley with multiple hits going 2 for 3 with a pair of singles for Janesville, Wisconsin.

Southeast, Missouri (0-2) will seek its first win of the tournament Tuesday morning at 11 against Westfield, Massachusetts and Janesville, Wisconsin takes on Jamestown in primetime at 7 p.m. later that day.

HAWAII 7, TEXAS 1

Nederland, Texas collected singles by its first three batters in the top of the first inning, but Logan Kawakami and Chaysten Fuentes, the Ron Tellefsen Player of the Game, didn't allow a base knock after that to spark Mililani, Hawaii to a 7-1 victory.

The win improves the Pacific Southwest Regional champions to 3-0, while Nederland, the Southwest Regional champs, fall to 0-3.

Trailing 1-0, Mililani responded with a five-run second inning, courtesy of three walks, two errors and Justice Gabrillo's RBI single. As it turned out, that was all it needed.

The Pacific Southwest Regional champs tacked on a pair of insurance runs in the fifth and rode the pitching dominance of Kawakami and Fuentes to post the convincing win.

Gabrillo, Fuentes and Stansen Verbeckmoes all had two hits for the winners. Grayson Kenney was the Ron Tellefsen Player of the Game recipient for Nederland.

Mililani will be back in action at 9 a.m. Thursday against Westfield, Massachusetts. Nederland, meanwhile, will face Westfield at 11 a.m Wednesday.
