The Jamestown Community College men’s soccer team stayed perfect Saturday afternoon with a 4-1 NJCAA home win over Clinton CC at Strider Field.
The Jayhawks' Liam Doyle opened the scoring in the sixth minute as the sophomore won a scrum in front of the net before burying the opening goal for a 1-0 Jamestown CC advantage.
The game stayed that way for most of the half, but just before the break, Alfie Moynihan broke through the Clinton CC defense and kicked one to the back of the net for a 2-0 Jayhawks’ lead.
In the second half, Jamestown CC goalkeeper Theo Merlin started to get tested, making a couple of point-blank stops, but the third shot from Clinton CC found the back of the net to trim the deficit to 2-1 with just over 20 minutes left in the game. Merlin finished making four saves on five shots.
The Jayhawks didn’t waste much time getting back their two-goal edge when Jamie Duckworth found Doyle, who tallied his third goal of the season to give Jamestown CC the upper hand at 3-1 in the 70th minute.
The Jayhawks added some insurance in the 81st minute as Casimiro Espeso notched an assist to Samuel Hynes in the box for a three-goal victory.
The win moves Jamestown CC to 2-0, including 1-0 in Region 3 action.
The Jayhawks will visit Finger Lakes CC for another regional showdown at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
