Tallahassee-Leon, Florida, put together the inning of the tournament to beat Bethel, Connecticut, in Game 22 of the Babe Ruth 13-year-old World Series on Thursday at Diethrick Park.
The Southeast Region champions batted through their order twice, scoring 16 runs in the second inning, en route to a 20-0 win over the New England Region champions.
Both teams entered the game knowing they were already through to Thursday evening's quarterfinals. The win gave Florida the National Division's No. 2 seed and a 7 p.m. date with American Division No. 3 seed Jamestown while Connecticut fell to the National Division's No. 3 seed and a 4:30 matchup with American Division No. 2 seed Janesville, Wisconsin.
In Florida's 16-run second inning, CJ Usina had three RBIs on a two-run double and a sacrifice fly; Owen Moore had a two-run single and drew a bases-loaded walk; Harvey Reichert had an RBI single and drew a bases-loaded walk; and Jack Wilson was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and hit an RBI single.
For the game, Alex McGee singled, walked twice, scored twice and drove in a run; Gabe Harper walked three times and scored two runs; Reichert singled, walked, scored a run and drove in two runs; Usina doubled and drove in three runs; Grayson Goeke singled twice, walked twice, drove in a run and scored three times; Cole Miller singled twice, walked twice and scored two runs; Jacobs singled, doubled, scored a run and drove in two runs; Wilson was hit by a pitch, singled, scored twice and drove in three runs; Moore walked, singled twice, drove in three runs and scored twice; and Evan House walked, tripled, scored twice and drove in a run.
House, the Ron Tellefsen Player of the Game for Florida, threw the opening three innings for Florida, allowing just a leadoff single to Josh Brewster in the second inning. The left-hander struck out five. Usina got the final three outs.
