Tarp Skunks win fourth straight
OLEAN — A five-run fourth inning sent the Jamestown Tarp Skunks past the Olean Oilers 8-4 in Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League action Tuesday at Bradner Stadium, despite Jamestown having just five hits on the night.
Logan Price picked up the save for the Tarp Skunks (16-6), throwing the final 2 2-3 innings while not allowing a hit or a run. He entered with a 7-4 lead in the seventh, getting out of a first-and-third situation. First an Olean (10-11) runner got caught stealing, then Price induced an inning-ending flyout to right field.
Jamestown took a 7-1 lead in the top of the fourth. CJ Dugan singled with one out before Eric Weeks and Nolan Smith walked with two outs to load the bases. Dom Costello followed with a two-run single, Smith scored on an error, Costello scored on a wild pitch and Nate Muncy scored on an error.
Weeks and Smith each had a double for the Tarp Skunks while Tito Kiefer, Costello and Dugan had singles.
Camp Churchill started on the mound for Jamestown, tossing 3 1-3 innings of two-hit, two-run ball with a strikeout and three walks. Jack Santi threw 2 2-3 innings of scoreless ball with two walks and a strikeout before Cohen Harris got one out while allowing two runs (one earned) with four walks.
Grant Fournier doubled while Cooper Tarlie and Aidan Willard singled for the Oilers. Five Olean pitchers combined to strike out 12 and walk six. Three of Jamestown’s eight runs were unearned.
First-place Jamestown, which has won four straight, will travel to Dwyer Stadium to take on the second-place Batavia Muckdogs (15-6) today at 6:30 p.m. before returning to Olean on Thursday. The Tarp Skunks’ only home game this week is Friday against the Oilers with a 7 p.m. start at Diethrick Park. Fireworks, presented by Jamestown Mattress, will follow that game.
