PGCBL announces Week 4 honorees
Many players made their mark on the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League last week, but the performances of five players earned them Player and Pitcher of the Week Awards for Week 4 of the season. These awards take into account all of the stats for the games from June 22-28.
WEST DIVISION
Elmira’s Luke Richards (Alfred State University) went 2-0 this past week, picking up wins over Geneva and Niagara Falls to earn Pitcher of the Week. He threw 12 innings, allowing an unearned run with 11 strikeouts and just three walks as hitters had a .098 batting average against.
On Tuesday, Richards entered the game with his team trailing 6-2. He threw the final five innings, allowing two hits and a walk while striking out six as the Pioneers rallied for a 12-7 win.
Then on Sunday, Richards pitched in the first game of a doubleheader and threw a complete-game shutout over Niagara Falls. He went all seven innings, allowing two hits and two walks with five strikeouts.
Olean went 3-1 this past week as Darek Staudt (Mercyhurst University) hit .714 with a double, a triple and a home run to earn Player of the Week. In just four games and seven at-bats, Staudt drove in eight runs. He hit an RBI triple in an 11-6 win over Niagara Falls, went 3 for 4 with a double, a homer and five RBIs in a 15-8 win over Auburn, and singled with an RBI in an 11-0 win over Geneva.
EAST DIVISION
Colin Richardson (Adelphi University) put the Dragons on his back on Tuesday night to earn co-Pitcher of the Week. The rising sophomore pitched a complete game in a 3-2 victory at home in Glens Falls over the Oneonta Outlaws. He struck out eight over nine innings and only allowed one walk. Richardson has a 2-1 record with a 3.60 ERA in 20 innings pitched on the season.
Tyson Harmon (Young Harris University) was the lights-out closer for Boonville this week to earn co-Pitcher of the Week. In a 3-1 victory over Mohawk Valley and a 4-3 win at Utica, Harmon went three up, three down in both games and even struck out the side in order to hold the one-run lead for the win over the Blue Sox.
The Amsterdam Mohawks’ win streak now sits at 13 straight games after going 5-0 this week, and two-time honoree Aiden Dill (Seton Hall University) was a big reason for that success. Dill earned his second Player of the Week honor this season after he hit .769 with 10 hits in 13 at-bats. Dill hit two doubles, a triple and two home runs while driving in nine runs and scoring 12. He also stole five bases.
Dill went 3 for 3 with a triple and a home run in a 16-3 win over Saugerties; 4 for 5 with two doubles in a 21-13 win over Utica; 1 for 3 with a home run in a 15-0 win over Boonville; and 2 for 2 in a 17-5 win over Mohawk Valley. He has a .418 batting average over the course of the season and is third in the league with 27 RBIs.
