Jamestown rally falls short in Batavia
BATAVIA — A five-run sixth inning gave the Tarp Skunks life, but it was not enough to get ahead of Batavia in an eventual 8-6 Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League on Wednesday night at Dwyer Stadium.
Batavia put Jamestown into an early hole, scoring six runs in the first four innings. Glenn Brooks drove in three runs early on and finished the game with an RBI triple, going 3 for 3 with 4 RBIs. Kyle Vaughn hit 2 for 3 with a double and a home run and Myles Monell finished 2 for 4 with a double for the Muckdogs (17-6).
Grant Moore got Jamestown’s rally started in the sixth with an RBI double, but Dom Costello made it a close game with a huge grand slam that made the score 6-5. Moore’s second RBI of the game kept Jamestown in it in the seventh, but the Tarp Skunks were unable to add on any more runs.
Zach McLean took the loss on the bump for Jamestown as he gave up five earned runs in three innings of work and Santino Musone and Camp Churchill surrendered the remaining runs.
Jake Szlis earned the win from Batavia, giving up just one hit in his five innings of work. Jamestown managed all of its runs against Jack Page and Garrett Beaver, but Eric Woodley closed out the final two innings with no hits and two strikeouts.
Jamestown (16-7) will look to bounce back today when it travels to Olean at 7:15 p.m.
