SALAMANCA -- After dropping the first game of the day, New York defended its turf by winning the last three against Pennsylvania in the 2026 NY/PA Corporate Cup Soccer Showcase at Salamanca High School on Sunday.
New York and Pennsylvania split the Silver matchups with the Pennsylvania boys winning 3-0 and the New York girls taking their contest 4-0 before the main-event Gold matches.
GOLD BOYS
New York scored quickly and never looked back in the Gold match with Hinsdale's Robert Childs finishing a set piece played into the box for a 1-0 lead. Later in the first half, Randolph's Cooper Freeman put on an excellent display of dribbling toward the Pennsylvania goal and was taken down to set up another direct kick. Allegany-Limestone's Cooper Wilczewski beat the wall and the keeper to elevate New York to 2-0 lead before halftime.
New York didn't take long to extend its advantage in the second half and it was again set up by a Freeman run, but this time converging defenders knocked the ball from him and onto the foot of Randolph teammate Cody Slade who buried the shot for a 3-0 lead.
Freeman's play led to another goal in the half when he played a lob for a teammate just outside the box, but aggressive goalkeeping punched the ball into further danger with Jamestown's Beckett Lumia capitalizing from distance to go up 4-0.
New York added another goal by Belfast's Wyatt Weaver in the final minutes to secure the 5-0 victory.
GOLD GIRLS
The New York girls matched the boys in the main event, but it was a longer road to reach the 5-2 decision over Pennsylvania.
The first half went to the Keystone State as the Brockway connection of Rheanna Spinda assisted Ana Hughes for the 1-0 lead.
It took New York about 18 minutes into the second half to get on the board, but when it did the floodgates opened.
Allegany-Limestone's Kennedy Honeck tied the game after kicking home a loose ball in the box with 26 minutes remaining. Then, just a minute later, her sister, Madison, sent a dart from long range into the top left corner to secure a 2-1 lead.
Pennsylvania had an answer nearly two minutes later with Spinda capitalizing on a defensive miscommunication that leveled the score 2-2.
After the miscue, New York locked in and regained the lead, courtesy of another Gator, as Kai Wojewoda-Ko sent another snipe to the top right corner for the 3-2 lead.
About 10 minutes later, Randolph's Gianna Bowles scored for the 4-2 lead and Pioneer's Ellie Edwards capped off the night with the final goal, making it 5-2 and a third straight win for New York on the day.
