Hilliker leads Travel League at Scenic Heights GC

WATTSBURG, Pa. — The Wednesday Travel League began the month of July in extreme heat at Scenic Heights Golf Course.

Josh Hilliker won his fifth event of the season, posting the low round of 79. Ed Tofil finished second with 82 and Jeff Nelson and Tom Sacilowski tied for third with 84s. Hilliker led the front nine with 38 and Nelson led the back nine with 40.

John Waterman won the B Flight. In the C Flight, Gary Haase was the winner after a tiebreaker with Aidan Hilliker. Joe Bifaro shot the low round by a senior. The winner of the Bruce “Java” Chrabasz Commissioner’s Award was Brady Hilliker.

Untied birdies were recorded by: A Flight, amateur Carter Crabtree (Nos. 3, 8), Josh Hilliker (No. 5), Sacilowski (Nos. 6, 18), Nelson (No. 10), Adam Gornikiewicz (No. 16), and Tofil (No. 17); B Flight, Phil Hopkins (Nos. 5, 11), Waterman (No. 9), Bifaro (Nos.13, 15), and Jeff Marsowicz (No. 17); C Flight, Aidan Hilliker (Nos. 2, 9, 12), Haase (Nos. 3, 10), Dennis Gawronski Sr. (Nos. 6, 16), and Tim Walawender (No.18).

Closest to the pin were Marsowiczn(No.n1), Dave Franklinn(No.n3), and Don Kujawan(Nos.n14,n18). Winners of the steeplechase were Josh Hilliker (A Flight), Dave Wallace (B), and Haase (C).

Top point winners were Kujawa (24), Marsowicz and Haase (20 each), and Josh Hilliker (18). Following are the season points leaders (through nine events): 1. Josh Hilliker (283), 2. Josh Hilliker moved past the late Ed “Butch” Mackowiak for ninth place on the all-time points list.

This week the league makes its first ever visit to Dande Farms Golf Course in Akron. The first tee time is at 10 a.m. Golfers are asked to inquire about limited openings as soon as possible.
