Fredonia bows out of softball championships
ST. JAMES — Fredonia’s run at the New York State Little League Softball championships is over.
The Downtown All-Stars out of Manhattan scored three times in the bottom of the first inning and once more in the third to beat Fredonia 4-1.
Fredonia actually outhit Downtown 6-3 and did not commit an error.
Fredonia’s lone run came in the top of the first inning. Avery Stellrecht singled with one out, stole second, went to third on a two-out passed ball and scored on Kara Harrington’s RBI single. Harrington then stole second, but was stranded on a groundout.
Trailing 3-1, Stellrecht pitched around a leadoff triple in the second inning with a strikeout and a double play.
In the fourth, trailing 4-1, Fredonia’s Callie Tramuta walked with one out and Harrington doubled, but a double play ended the inning.
Again in the fifth, Adrianna Dimitri singled to open the inning, but was caught stealing for the second out before Bria Thies singled. A groundout ended that threat.
In the sixth, Raelyn Korzeniewski singled with one out, but a pair of strikeouts ended the game.
Stellrecht and Harrington combined on the three-hitter with nine strikeouts in the circle for Fredonia.
