71 enter Lew Mead tourney

The 33rd Lew Mead Youth Fishing Tournament was held on Saturday at the DEC Boat Launch on Cassadaga Lakes. There were 71 participants entered this year. A prize raffle was held at the conclusion for all of the kids. Gift certificates from Valley Outdoors were awarded to the overall largest fish as well as the largest fish in each age group. This year’s overall winner was Mekenna Villa for a 17.5-inch largemouth bass. The age group winners were Kayden Casset, Hank Anderson, Beckham VIlla and Samuel McAdoo. Mekenna Villa is the great-granddaughter of Lew Mead, in whose honor the tournament was established. The tournament is hosted by the Cassadaga Lakes Association with donations from Dunkirk Walmart, Valley Outdoors and the family of Lew Mead as well as other local donors. Captain Larry D. Jones from the WNY Walleye Association provided fishing equipment, ensuring all children were able to participate. The CLA is already planning to host next year’s event.
