Tarp Skunks pull away in Newark

NEWARK — Jamestown scored eight runs in the top of the ninth inning to snap a 12-all tie en route to a 20-12 victory over Newark in Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League action at Colburn Park on Tuesday night.

Grant Moore (double), Matthew Dumas and Caleb Jordan all had two hits for the Tarp Skunks (11-2), who led 12-2 after 5 1-2 innings. But the winless Pilots (0-9) erupted for nine runs in the bottom of the sixth and one more in the seventh to tie the game, which featured 21 hits and 11 errors, and took four hours to complete.

Moore, Dumas and Eric Weeks (double) had three RBIs; and Jordan, Heath Fetchik and Blake Herman added two apiece for Jamestown, which is 9-1 in its last 10 games. Jackson Enders added a double.

The Tarp Skunks used five pitchers. Joseph Santos (1-0) was the winner in relief.

For Newark, Michael DeRosa led the offense with four hits, and Aiden Bolan and Nikolas Nelson drove in two runs apiece. Sam Heintz (0-1) took the loss.

Jamestown begins a three-game homestand tonight when it entertains Olean at 6:30 p.m. The Tarp Skunks will take on Niagara Falls on Thursday and Niagara on Friday.
