Bemus Point 3-on-3 scheduled for July 18-19
On a summer weekend as he was growing up, it wasn’t unusual for Alex Grace to not only play in the Bemus Point 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament, but also to hang out at the village’s Lakeside Park to take in the action.
“Watching the older groups — the Maceo Woffords of the world — they were good,” Grace recalled Thursday afternoon. “Then, watching your best friends play and compete, and then sitting (courtside) and waiting for your next game to be played (was fun).”
Area hoops lovers will get another chance to do just that July 18-19 when the Bemus Point 3-on-3 returns after a hiatus of several years. The registration deadline is July 10.
“The big thing this year,” said Bob Goold, tournament director emeritus, “is we want to get as many kids involved as we can.”
The divisions include: Boys 3rd-4th grade; Girls 3rd-4th grade, Boys 5th-6th grade, Girls 5th-6th grade, Boys Junior High (7th, 8th and 9th grade), Girls Junior High (7th, 8th and 9th grade), Boys High School (10th, 11th, 12th grade), Girls High School (10th, 11th, 12th grade), Men’s College (age 19-24), Women’s College (age 19-24), Men’s Open, Women’s Open and 6-foot and under (coed). The divisions are determined by the grade a participant will be entering in fall 2026 or the age as of July 19, 2026.
Games will be played on the four courts at Lakeside Park and the two courts at the Bemus Point Elementary School. Brackets will be released July 17 and can be viewed in person at the park. Those who are unable to view them in person, a copy of their bracket will be emailed to them. All teams must check in on July 17, or prior to their first game, to confirm payment (fee is $100 per team) and submit a signed liability waiver.
Checks can be made payable to St. Timothy Lutheran Church. Payment may be made on July 17, at check-in or mailed in advance, with the team name attached, to 4885 Merritt Road, Bemus Point, New York, 14712. Tournament proceeds will benefit Hoops for Honduras.
Grace said one of his fondest memories from the years he played in the Bemus Point 3-on-3 was when one of his teammates, Nick Schmidt, made eight 3-pointers in eight straight possessions.
“I just passed the ball in and Nick came off screens and shot it,” said Grace, who serves as this year’s tournament director with Jordan Goold. “Literally, eight straight 3s.”
Participants are required to sign a liability waiver prior to participating in the event. Waiver forms can be completed in person on July 17 or before a participant plays his or her first game.
