8-run fifth lifts Skunks
NEWARK — An eight-run fifth inning propelled Jamestown to a 10-6 come-from-behind victory over Newark in a Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League contest on Thursday night before 100 fans at Colburn Park.
The win, which raised the Tarp Skunks’ record to 4-1, was highlighted by two hits apiece from Blake Herman and Joaquin Rodriguez-Costa (double); a solo home run from James Dixon; and a double and two RBIs from Caleb Jordan.
Reliever Santino Musone, one of four Jamestown pitchers, earned his first win of the season, striking out five and allowing three runs in 3 1-3 innings. Logan Price and Collin Pence didn’t allow a run or a hit over the final three frames.
Jonathan Rodriguez (double) collected two hits and Angel Xavier Gomez Osoria both had doubles for Newark.
The Tarp Skunks, who trailed 4-0 through four innings, took the lead for good in the fifth against Jackson Moore (0-1), who came in relief of starter Cam Harrison.
Highlighting the rally for Jamestown was a two-run single by Eric Weeks and a two-run double by Jordan. Coupled with a hit batter, a walk and wild pitch, the Tarp Skunks headed to the bottom of the sixth leading 8-4.
The Pilots closed the gap to 8-6 after six complete, but they didn’t score again, while Jamestown tacked on a pair of insurance runs in the ninth, including Dixon’s home run.
The Tarp Skunks continue their road trip tonight at the Niagara Ironbacks.
