Trocki Named Class C POY For 2nd Straight Season

Jadyn Trocki was unquestionably the best girls basketball player in the area this season.
An argument can be made that she was the best in New York state.
On Monday, the New York State Sportswriters Association named Trocki the Class C Player of the Year for the second straight season. The junior guard’s numbers certainly backed up the choice. In 26 games on the way to the Bears’ second straight New York State Public High School Athletic Association championship, Trocki averaged 21.3 points, 5.3 assists, 4.4 steals, 4.9 rebounds and 1.8 blocked shots per game.
The all-state recognition for Trocki comes on the heels of her being named to MaxPrep’s Small Town All-American sixth team in late April.
Sixteen other local girls received small-school recognition Monday from the NYSSWA, including a pair of Trocki’s state-champion teammates.
Frewsburg senior Abery Harvey was named to the Class C second team while Bears sophomore Jaden Jimerson was named to the sixth team. Harvey averaged 14.7 points, 5.6 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 1.3 steals and 0.8 blocked shots per game while Jimerson averaged 9.1 points, 4.7 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 2.1 steals per game.
Elsewhere in Class C, Randolph freshman Ava Sears was named to the fourth team after averaging 18.2 points, 4.8 rebounds, 4.3 steals and 3.1 assists per game for the Cardinals; Cassadaga Valley junior Breonna Hopkins was named to the fifth team after averaging 15.6 points, 7.7 rebounds, 2.4 steals and 1.2 assists per game for the Cougars; Westfield senior Nahlia Douglas was named to the eighth team after averaging 11.0 points, 6.2 rebounds, 2.4 assists, 1.6 steals and 1.1 blocked shots per game for the Wolverines; and Randolph senior Gianna Bowles (10.9 ppg, 8.6 rpg, 6.6 apg, 4.9 spg), Ellicottville senior Andy Northrup (14.0 ppg, 3.8 spg, 3.2 rpg, 2.3 apg) and Westfield senior Mackenzie Schumaker (11.7 ppg, 3.8 rpg, 2.4 spg, 1.3 apg) received honorable-mention recognition.
Panama senior Kiera Loberg received the top honor locally in Class D with a second-team nod after averaging 21.4 points, 4.8 rebounds, 3.8 steals and 2.1 assists per game for the Panthers. Forestville senior Carilene Sliwa and Sherman sophomore Emmersen Crawford were named to the third team. Sliwa averaged 26.7 points per game for the Hornets while Crawford averaged 14.5 points, 6.2 rebounds, 3.0 steals and 2.7 assists per game for the Wildcats. Panama senior Jessica Lyon and Sherman sophomore Baya Oehlbeck were named to the sixth team. Lyon averaged 11.6 points, 8.5 rebounds, 2.2 steals and 1.5 assists per game for the Panthers while Oehlbeck averaged 15.4 points, 3.2 rebounds, 3.1 steals and 2.3 assists per game for the Wildcats.
Southwestern had a pair of girls recognized in Class B. Eighth-grader Gianna Sirianni was named to the fourth team while sophomore Charlotte Beaver was named to the sixth team. Sirianni averaged 15.0 points, 3.7 assists, 3.6 rebounds and 2.6 steals per game while Beaver averaged 12.9 points, 5.6 rebounds, 2.2 steals and 1.2 assists per game for the Trojans. Salamanca junior Makenzie Crouse was named to the 12th team after averaging 8.0 points, 8.1 rebounds, 2.0 steals, 1.8 blocked shots and 1.7 assists per game for the Warriors.
Other Section VI girls honored included: Akron junior Abby Gerstung (seventh team), Springville senior Daniella Oakley (11th team), Royalton-Hartland junior Adella Dukes (honorable mention), Medina freshman Caliyah St. Louis (honorable mention), Alden senior Jillian Uhrich (honorable mention) and Olmsted junior Abayomi McCray (honorable mention) in Class B; Wilson sophomore Bella Thrush (honorable mention) and Holland junior Michaela Wiskup (honorable mention) in Class C; and Franklinville senior McKenzie Chase (honorable mention) in Class D.
Senior Maggie Warpus of Section IV Chenango Forks was named the Player of the Year in Class B while junior Sofia Falleti of Section V Batavia Notre Dame was named the Player of the Year in Class D.
