Silver Creek Holds Off Forestville For 6-4 Softball Victory

FORESTVILLE — Silver Creek’s 6-0 lead through two innings held up for a 6-4 Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 3 softball win over Forestville on Monday.

The Hornets (8-2, 7-1) rallied for four runs in the final two innings and had the bases loaded with one out in the seventh before the Black Knights (7-2, 6-1) reliever Rylee Weiskerger struck out the final two batters of the game.

Maddy Blair earned the win in the circle for Silver Creek, scattering six hits while allowing four runs (two earned), walking five and striking out nine.

Rhyana Willis went 2 for 4 with an RBI and two runs scored; Kyla Ziegler was 2 for 4 with a double, an RBI and a run scored; and Weiskerger and Blair also each drove in a run in the win.

Elizabeth Case took the loss for Forestville, allowing five hits and six runs (two earned) while striking out two and walking one. Alexandra Kerstetter was nearly unhittable in relief, allowing one hit while striking out 11.

Carilene Sliwa went 2 for 4 with a run scored while Ava Schwerk, Case and Emma Hodkin each doubled in the loss.

KOTA HAS MONSTER DAY

GOWANDA — Addison Kota went 3 for 4 with two home runs, a triple, seven RBIs and three runs scored to power Gowanda past Brocton 13-0 in five innings of Division 3 play.

Kota also threw a one-hitter with nine strikeouts and one walk in the circle for the Panthers (8-6, 6-3).

Gowanda entered the fifth inning leading 5-0. Corrina John led off with a single before back-to-back outs. Alayna Fish and Hayleigh Miller hit back-to-back singles to load the bases ahead of a wild pitch that scored the Panthers’ sixth run. Bella Maines then hit a two-run single and Miller scored on an error to make it 8-0. Fish’s RBI single made it 9-0 and Bizzy John walked before Kota’s second home run — a grand slam — ended the game.

Corrina John, Fish and Maines were all 2 for 3.

Miyah Collins had the lone hit for the Bulldogs (1-12, 0-8).

LAFFERTY LIFTS ELLICOTTVILLE

ELLICOTTVILLE — Katie Lafferty threw a four-hitter with 11 strikeouts and no walks as Ellicottville shut out Falconer 2-0 to secure at least a share of the Division 4 title.

The Eagles (11-2, 8-1) took a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Ande Northrup led off with a walk and eventually got to third before the Golden Falcons (11-2, 7-2) caught a pop-up, but carried the ball out of play, allowing Northrup to score.

In the sixth, Lafferty gave herself an insurance run when she homered to left field with one out.

For Ellicottville, Teaghan Finn went 2 for 3 with a double and Keira Baldwin also singled.

Emily Rhinehart took the loss for Falconer, tossing a four-hitter with seven strikeouts and four walks. Mylie Zaranek, Hannah Melquist, Emily Zaranek and Khloe Livengood all singled.

The Eagles can win the league crown outright with a win over Portville today.

SOUTHWESTERN COASTS PAST WARRIORS

SALAMANCA — Kate Casel went 3 for 3 with two doubles, three RBIs and two runs scored to lead Southwestern to a 15-0 shutout of Salamanca in Division 1 play.

Leala Carlson went 2 for 5 with a pair of doubles and two RBIs; Kaitlin Rogers was 2 for 3 with a double and three runs scored; and Madi Burnett drove in a pair of runs for the Trojans (5-8, 4-5).

Burnett tossed a three-hitter with 11 strikeouts in the circle.

Makenzie Crouse, Delaney Haley and Kynleigh Wass each singled for the Warriors (3-10, 1-8).

HUSKIES PULL AWAY FROM DUNKIRK

OLEAN — A four-run bottom of the fourth inning broke a 4-4 tie and Olean pulled away from Dunkirk for a 12-7 Division 1 win.

Anna Bates homered, drove in three runs and scored twice; Ari Finch went 2 for 4 with a double, an RBI and three runs scored; Ava Finch was 2 for 4 with an RBI and a run scored; Alaina Hirliman went 2 for 4 with a double, three RBIs and a run scored; and Amelia Jones and Mallory Carter added doubles for the Huskies (10-4, 9-2).

Ryleigh Donato homered, drove in two runs and scored twice; Gracie Grann went 2 for 4 with a double and a run scored; Paige Perry was 2 for 2 with two RBIs; and Chloe Sutton went 2 for 4 with two runs scored for the Marauders (3-10, 1-7).

HILLBILLIES ROLL RED & GREEN

JAMESTOWN — Jenna Fryberger and Bella Buckley both collected two hits with a double as Fredonia downed Jamestown 21-1 in five innings of Division 1 action.

Naomi Muck and McKenna Crawford added two more hits each, while Callie Draggett smacked a double. Anna Delcamp picked up the win for Fredonia (10-2, 10-2) giving up just two hits and striking out seven batters.

Emily Maggio took the loss in the circle for Jamestown (1-9, 0-8) and recorded two strikeouts.
