McIntyre, Johnson Break SW Marks; MG Sweeps Black Knights

Southwestern’s Tyler McIntyre, right, is congratulated by Mike Currie (SWCS Class of 2002) and his daughter, Avyn, after the former broke Currie’s discus record Tuesday in a Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association track & field meet against Dunkirk at the Sirianni Athletic Complex. WEST ELLICOTT — Tyler McIntyre made some school history at the Sirianni Athletic Complex on Tuesday as he helped lift the Southwestern boys track and field team past Dunkirk 80-61 in Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association action.
Mike Currie set the Southwestern discus record in 2002 with a throw of 165 feet and 24 years later McIntyre inched past that mark with a throw of 165 feet and 3 inches.
McIntyre’s record throw capped off a victory that was led by triple-winner Noah Brown winning the 110-meter high hurdles (18.2), the 400-meter intermediate hurdles (1:08) and the high jump (5-11). Kellan Brown added two more victories in the 1,600 (5:38) and the 3,200 (12:03).
The Dunkirk effort was highlighted by double-winner Brady Dobek in the 200 (23.6) and 400 (55.6).
Mikayla Johnson also made a little history for the Southwestern girls, but it was breaking her own discus record with a new distance of 137 feet and 2 inches. Johnson added another win in shot put throwing 41-10 and the girls claimed the meet 127-24.
