Hodkin, Fredonia Blank Salamanca 7-0 In Softball
FREDONIA — McKella Hodkin allowed just three hits and struck out nine batters to lead Fredonia past Salamanca 7-0 in Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 1 softball action Monday.
Hodkin added another two hits at the plate for Fredonia (7-1, 6-1), while Bella Buckley connected for two doubles and Ava Muck hit a triple.
Kenzie Crouse connected on two hits for Salamanca (3-9, 1-7), while Charli Ross took the loss in the circle giving up seven hits and striking out four.
RHINEHART
STYMIES PORTVILLE
PORTVILLE — Emily Rhinehart threw a complete-game two-hit shutout with 13 strikeouts and four walks as Falconer blanked Portville 6-0 in Division 4 action.
Hannah Melquist went 4 for 4 with an RBI and two runs scored; Mylie Zaranek was 2 for 3 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored; and Emily Zaranek was 2 for 4 with an RBI for the Golden Falcons (10-1, 6-1), who scored three runs in the sixth inning and three more in the seventh to break a scoreless tie.
Ella Warters also threw a complete game for Portville (5-4, 2-4), striking out 10 while walking three.
Sienna Schoonover had both of the Panthers’ hits, with one being a double.
BLAIR SHINES
FOR BLACK KNIGHTS
SILVER CREEK — Maddy Blair threw a two-hitter with four strikeouts and three walks in Silver Creek’s 3-1 Division 3 win over Randolph.
The Black Knights (6-2, 5-1)) went ahead 2-0 in the bottom of the first inning, thanks to a pair of errors by the Cardinals (2-5, 1-4).
Randolph’s Mallory Smallback doubled and scored on a passed ball to make it 2-1 in the top of the sixth inning, but Silver Creek’s Rylee Weiskerger doubled and scored on Madisen Hein’s RBI single in the bottom of the frame.
Grace Arnold-Hill allowed just four hits and one earned run while striking out eight in the circle for the Cardinals.
DUNKIRK EXPLODES
FOR 28 RUNS
BUFFALO — Gracie Grann went 3 for 5 with three RBIs and four runs scored as Dunkirk beat nonleague CSAT 28-5.
Genesis Oquendo-Vazquez went 2 for 3 with a double, two RBIs and three runs scored; Maria Dolce was 2 for 4 with three RBIs and three runs scored; Paige Perry was 2 for 2 with three RBIs and two runs scored; and Eliza Bautista was 2 for 4 with three RBIs and two runs scored for the Marauders (3-8).
Dunkirk scored 11 runs in the second and third innings.
EAGLES PULL AWAY
MAYVILLE — Chautauqua Lake scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth to pull away from Cassadaga Valley for an 8-5 Division 2 victory.
With the victory, Chautauqua Lake stayed undefeated at 8-0 overall and 6-0 in league.
The Cassadaga Valley (0-6, 0-6) effort was led by Kristyn McVey, who went 2 for 4 with a triple. Denza Fanara connected for a double and Jaydyne Crowell had an RBI.
NORTH COLLINS
EDGES PANTHERS
FRANKLINVILLE — Lily Montaldi hit a home run and was walked three times in a 9-6 North Collins victory over Franklinville in Division 4 action.
North Collins (5-6, 5-2) also had Morgan Kreinheder hit 2 for 4 with a run. Payton Gabel tripled and Kallie Emke earned the win in the circle with six strikeouts.
Grace Cornell took the loss for Franklinville (6-2, 4-2).
MAINE THREE-HITS SOUTHWESTERN
OLEAN — Madi Burnett doubled while Katelyn Casel and Kate Rogers each singled in Southwestern’s 10-1 Division 1 loss to Olean.
Tiana Maine threw the three-hitter for the Huskies (7-4, 6-2), striking out 10.
Burnett struck out nine and walked one in the circle for Southwestern (3-4, 3-4). Just three of the 10 runs she allowed were earned.
MAPLE GROVE
EDGES FREWSBURG
BEMUS POINT — Savannah Rambacher went 2 for 4 with three RBIs to lead Maple Grove past Frewsburg 6-4 in Division 2.
Megan McGee drove in another two runs for Maple Grove (4-5, 3-3), while both Dani Trim and Genevieve Sellstrom doubled. Meg Ryan earned the win in the circle with 10 strikeouts, three walks and six hits allowed.
Grace Hyldahl hit two batters, gave up nine hits and struck out two batters for Frewsburg (1-8, 1-5).
