Hilliker shoots 77 to lead Travel League

LAKEWOOD — Josh Hilliker led the field with the low round of 77 during this week’s Wednesday Travel League event, held at Maplehurst Country Club.

Bob North finished second with an 80 and Jeff Nelson was third with an 82. North led the front nine with a 37 and Hilliker led the back nine with a 36.

The B Flight winner, in his league debut, was Tyler North. The low round by a senior was recorded by Ron Szach. The winner of the Bruce “Java” Chrabasz Commissioner’s Award was Bob Kujawa.

Untied birdies were recorded by: A Flight — Bob North (Nos. 4 and 7), Szach (No. 5), Hilliker (Nos. 11 and 15) and John Waterman (No. 17); B Flight — Tom Sacilowski (No. 3), Ken Kaus (No. 5), Dennis Gawronski Sr. (No. 9), Dave Franklin (No. 14), Tyler North (No. 15) and Phil Hopkins (No. 18).

Closest to the pin were: Sacilowski (Nos. 3 and 13), Jeff Marsowicz (No. 7) and Hilliker (No. 16). Winners of the Steeplechase were: Gary Haase in A Flight and Marsowicz in B Flight.

Top point winners were: Hilliker (34), Bob North and Sacilowski (28 apiece), and Marsowicz (22). Season points leaders (through four events): 1. Hilliker (112), 2. Sacilowski (68), 3. Nelson (61), 4. Ed Tofil (58), 5. Bob North (42), 6. Pete Pinkoski (39), 7. Dave Wallace (37), 8. Hopkins (36), 9. Waterman (25), 10. Haase (24). Josh Hilliker passed Bob Thompson for 12th place on the all-time points list and Ken Kaus passed Dave Criscione for 16th place.

This week the league will play North Hills in Corry, Pennsylvania, with a 10 a.m. start. Golfers are asked to be signed up by noon Monday.

On Wednesday, June 10, the league will hold its fifth annual “Uncle Buck Classic,” honoring the memory of Edward “Butch” Mackowiak. It will be held at Chautauqua Golf Club’s Lake Course with a 10 a.m. start. Golfers can sign up at 716-785-2291.
