Dunkirk Bests Salamanca In Pitching Duel

DUNKIRK — Gabriella Grann and Charli Ross were locked in a pitcher’s duel Friday in a Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 1 softball game.

Grann was just a little bit better.

The seventh-grader allowed four hits and no earned runs, struck out four and walked two to spark Dunkirk to a 3-2 victory over Salamanca.

Offensively, Gracie Grann led the Marauders (4-12, 2-9) with two hits, including a double, and Ryleigh Donato and Genesis Oquendo-Vasquez drove in a run apiece.

Ross tossed a four-hitter, struck out six, allowed just one earned run and helped her own cause with a double for the Warriors (5-11, 3-9). Teammate Addy Earley chipped in a pair of hits.

SCHWERK SPARKS HORNETS

SOUTH DAYTON — Ava Schwerk collected four hits, including a double and a home run, and drove in eight runs to highlight Forestville’s 24-0 five-inning victory over Pine Valley in a Division 3 game.

Emily Lillie also homered, and Carilene Sliwa and Madison Christian belted doubles to lead an 18-hit attack. Alexandra Kerstetter was the winning pitcher, allowing three hits and striking out six. Joining Schwerk with multiple hits for the Hornets were Sliwa, Lillie, Christian and Kerstetter.

The win raised Forestville’s record to 10-2 overall and 9-1 in the division.

Victoria Erickson, Sandra Ivett and Madilynn Robertson had a single apiece for the Panthers (1-11, 1-8).

HILLBILLIES HOLD OFF FALCONER

FREDONIA — Fredonia gave up five runs in the final two innings, but with plenty of cushion held off Falconer for a 10-7 nonleague victory.

Naomi Muck led the Hillbillies hitting 2 for 3 with a double and two runs scored, Jenna Fryberger followed her up going 2 for 3 with a double and 2 RBIs and Anna Delcamp added a double and 2 RBIs. Kara Harrington earned the win in the circle with 10 strikeouts, 10 hits and seven walks.

Falconer was powered by Hannah Melquist hitting 3 for 4 with a double and 2 RBIs and Mylie Zaranek hit 2 for 3 with an RBI and three runs scored. Payton Smith took the loss in the circle, but recorded five strikeouts in her 4 1/3 innings pitched.

The Hillbillies also clinched a share of the Division 1 title on Friday night as Olean defeated Allegany-Limestone 8-5 to create a three-way tie atop the league at 10-2.

BLACK KNIGHTS DOWN BULLDOGS

FREDONIA — Maddy Blair hit 3 for 4 with a double, 2 RBIs and two runs scored to lead Silver Creek past Brocton in Division 3 action at Fredonia State University.

Kyla Ziegler added another three hits and scored twice for the Black Knights (8-3, 7-2), Rylee Weiskerger hit a triple and Madisen Hein provided a double. Weiskerger picked up the win with a whopping 15 strikeouts and gave up just two hits.

Victoria Battaglia hit 1 for 3 and scored the lone run for Brocton (2-13, 1-9), while Navaeh Hebner took the loss in the circle with six strikeouts.

TROJANS ROLL RED & GREEN

Maddi Burnett collected two doubles and hit 3 for 4 as Southwestern rolled Jamestown 9-2 in Division 1 action.

Arianna Silakowski hit a triple and then earned the win in the circle with five strikeouts in four innings of work in which she gave up just three hits. Burnett finished the game and added seven more strikeouts.

Brooke Lillie hit 2 for 4 with a double, Lily Robinson finished 2 for 4 and Leia Taylor ended the day 2 for 3 with two runs scored and 3 RBIs for the Trojans (6-6, 6-6).

Emily Maggio collected two hits for Jamestown (1-12, 0-11), while Alyvia Remington provided a triple.
