CLRA celebrating 20 years Sunday
Chautauqua Lake Rowing Association is celebrating 20 years on the water this year.
As part of that celebration, CLRA is having a kickoff gathering this Sunday at its boathouse, which is located at 18 Jones and Gifford Ave. in Jamestown.
There will be an opportunity to row between noon and 1 p.m. with the general celebration set from 1-3 p.m. There will also be music during the event provided by The Assembly, a well-known local band. Mystic Smoke and Cups & Cones food trucks will be on site; and a 20-year anniversary cake will also be served.
Along with the celebration, the CLRA is also participating in U.S. Rowing’s Return to Rowing theme this year. Plans include having boats available so that anyone interested can try rowing with some of the organization’s current rowers during the hours noted above. Those interested in rowing or riding along in a coach boat, will be asked to complete a brief survey to indicate level of interest. Chautauqua Lake Rowing was the brainchild of former New York Supreme Court Judge Joe Gerace. He recruited a local businessman, Lee Stein, and three former collegiate rowers, Kevin Sixbey, Steve Odrzywolski and Eric Larson as the founding members. Along with the help of local attorney Bill Wright, the organization was incorporated. Since then, the organization has hosted numerous learn-to-row training sessions, high school rowing teams, and had a thriving Master’s program.
