Jamestown scored single runs in the fifth and sixth innings, but couldn’t rally all the way in a 4-2 Erie County Interscholastic Conference Division 1 loss to Clarence at Diethrick Park on Thursday.

Trailing 4-0, Maddox Thompson singled and scored on Alaric Richards’ RBI single in the fifth for the Red & Green (4-8, 2-5). An inning later, Thompson’s RBI single plated Chase Bonta to make it 4-2, but Thompson was stranded by Red Devils (9-4, 5-2) reliever Kevin Klein.

In Jamestown’s seventh, Julian Jackson reached on a two-out single, but again Klein got out of the inning for the save.

Aaron Ostrov started for Clarence, allowing two runs on five hits and a walk while striking out three.

Jackson started for Jamestown, allowing four runs (three earned) on eight hits and a walk while striking out three in five innings of work. Jackson Grey pitched two shutout innings of relief, allowing a hit and a walk.

NEUBAUER STYMIES HILLBILLIES

FREDONIA — Cody Neubauer didn’t have the greatest start for Silver Creek/Forestville on Tuesday.

A rain delay came at just the right time.

The Black Knights’ sophomore right-hander walked nine, but struck out 10 and allowed just two hits in a 4-3 Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 1 win over Fredonia that spanned three days, finishing Thursday evening.

On Tuesday, the Hillbillies jumped out to a 3-1 lead with a bottom of the first inning that included four walks and a hit batter. Their runs scored on a pair of bases-loaded walks and a wild pitch before Neubauer struck out the side.

Silver Creek/Forestville (5-5, 3-4) took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning on a Neubauer RBI single that plated Manny Sanchez.

On Thursday, Hunter Anderson made it 3-2 with an RBI single to score Damon Bell. Ryan Skinner’s RBI fielder’s choice in the fourth inning made it 3-3 before Sanchez scored later in the inning to give the Black Knights the lead for good.

Fredonia’s Rocco Muscarella doubled with two outs in the bottom of the seventh and Luka Paoletta followed with a walk, but Neubauer got the final out on a pop-up to end the game.

Anderson and Neubauer had two hits apiece while Bell added a double for the Black Knights.

Matt Cowan allowed six hits and walked eight while striking out five on the mound for the Hillbillies (7-4, 5-4). He also singled at the plate.

BECKSTROM SHINES FOR BEARS

WESTFIELD — Drake Beckstrom threw two-hit ball into the seventh inning as Frewsburg beat Westfield 8-3 in Division 2 action.

Beckstrom was one out away from a complete game when he hit his pitch limit. He struck out 12 and walked two. Peter Pasieka got the final out on a pop-up with the bases loaded.

Beckstrom helped himself with two hits, two RBIs and a run scored; Gavin Weaver had two hits, an RBI and a run scored; and Trent Haglund doubled and drove in a run for the Bears (2-8, 2-6).

Trent Ramm singled and drove in a run for the Wolverines (5-3, 5-3). Joey Russo, Logan Baum and Ramm combined for 12 strikeouts on the mound.
