Jamestown sophomore Beckett Lumia was the local headliner at the Jamestown Track & Field Classic on Saturday.

Athletes from Clymer/Sherman/Panama, Silver Creek/Forestville, Gowanda, Frewsburg and Falconer/Cassadaga Valley left Strider Field with an extra bounce in their step as well.

It was that kind of day for the area teens on the city’s south side.

Lumia won the 200 meters (22.98) — he just edged the Black Knights’ Samuel Bowers at the finish — and the 400 meters (48.64) to help the Red & Green place first among 22 teams with 82 points. Lumia’s teammate, Finn Caswell, also was victorious, claiming the 1,600 meters (4:28.16), which allowed Jamestown to hold off second-place Hamburg (66 points) and third-place Amherst (58) for the boys’ team title.

Also finishing first among area boys were Noah Erickson of Frewsburg in the 400-meter hurdles (57.30); the Bears’ 1,600-meter relay (3:33.61); and Nathan Mays of Silver Creek/Forestville in the pentathlon (3,292 points).

Highlighting the performances among the area girls were Ingrid Gibson of Silver Creek/Forestville; Riley Johnson, Savannah Whitney and Finley Mitchell of Clymer/Sherman/Panama; Isabella DeGolier of Gowanda; and Skyler Norlander of Falconer/Cassadaga Valley.

Gibson doubled in the shot put (30 feet, 9.25 inches) and the discus (112-4). Meanwhile, Johnson won the 800 meters (2:24.94), Whitney captured the 1,500 meters (4:58.42) and Mitchell crossed the finish line first in the 400-meter hurdles (1:08.99) as the Wolfpack placed second as a team with 56 points, trailing only Lockport (118.5). DeGolier was first in the high jump (5-1) and Norlander was victorious in the triple jump (33-7) to complete the local individual winners.

Joining Gibson as a double winner among the girls was Elle Soltiz of Orchard Park, who was victorious in the 100 meters (13.19) and the 200 meters (26.82).
