Bulldogs cruise in Class C prequarters

GOWANDA – A nine-run second inning led No. 5 Brocton/Cassadaga Valley to a 12-1 win over No. 12 Wilson in a Section VI Class C baseball prequarterfinal Sunday.
Trailing 1-0, the Bulldogs’ Nick Sweet, Chris Furman and Tanner Olmstead walked to load the bases with no outs in the second. Ray Santiago followed with an RBI groundout and Drew Gustafson walked to reload the bases before Anthony Gatto’s RBI single to right field. Jackson Crowell then drew a bases-loaded walk and Nico Blattenberger hit an RBI single before Allen Blattenberger drew a walk to force in another run. Sweet added an RBI single, Furman drew a bases-loaded walk, Olmstead hit an RBI single and Santiago hit an RBI single before the frame was over.
Brocton/Cassadaga Valley finished with just six hits, but drew 13 walks.
Gatto earned the win on the mound, allowing a run on no hits and three walks while striking out five. Crowell finished the five-inning no-hitter with two strikeouts and a walk.
The Bulldogs will host No. 13 Allegany-Limestone in a Tuesday quarterfinal after the Gators upset No. 4 Westfield 2-1 in another Sunday prequarterfinal.

ONE HIT ENOUGH FOR GATORS
WESTFIELD – No. 13 Allegany-Limestone recorded just one hit, but a two-run fourth inning was enough to propel the Gators past No. 4 Westfield 2-1 in a Class C prequarterfinal.
Conner Crowley walked to open the fourth and Dylan Rhodes reached on an error before a wild pitch moved both runners up a base. Bronx Foster followed with a sacrifice fly and Mike Questa hit an RBI groundout to make it 2-0.
Rhodes earned the win for Allegany-Limestone, tossing 6 â…” innings of five-hit ball with four walks and two strikeouts. Caidyn Chouinard got the final two outs with a pair of strikeouts for the save.
Joel Stein threw a complete-game one-hitter with nine strikeouts and three walks for the Wolverines.
Joey Russo, Paolo Lescano, Grant Beadle, Parker Covert and Ian Kindermann each singled with Stein driving in Westfield’s only run.
Allegany-Limestone will travel to No. 5 Brocton/Cassadaga Valley for a 5 p.m. Tuesday quarterfinal.
HILLBILLIES ADVANCE
BUFFALO — Pauly Tabone hit a two-run double in the top of the sixth to give 10-seed Fredonia enough breathing room to defeat No. 7 Tonawanda 8-5 in the Class B prequarterfinals at Kenmore West High School.
The bats were going all day for Fredonia, scoring four runs in the first two innings. Highlighting the offensive barrage were Brady Crawford with two hits including a double and two runs scored, Matt Cowan collected two hits with a double, scored twice, stole twice and hit an RBI, Colin Luce added two hits with a double and 2 RBIs, Brayden Korzeniewski had two hits with a double, two runs scored and an RBI, Rocco Muscarella added two hits, a run and an RBI and Issiah Ruiz had two hits, four stolen bases and one run scored.
Matt Cowan pitched the complete game for Fredonia with 10 strikeouts.
Tonawanda was led by Aaden Brant with 3 RBIs.
Fredonia (10-8) travels to No. 2 Medina (15-1) for a playoff rematch on Tuesday at 5 p.m.
BECKSTROM, WEAVER SILENCE WOLFPACK
SALAMANCA – Drake Beckstrom and Gavin Weaver combined on a six-inning four-hitter with eight strikeouts as No. 9 Frewsburg beat No. 8 Clymer/Sherman/Panama 10-0 at Veterans Memorial Park.
Beckstrom threw the first four innings, allowing two hits while striking out five and walking one. Weaver tossed the final two innings, allowing two hits while striking out three and walking two.
Weaver went 2 for 4 with a double, a triple, two RBIs and two runs scored while Aiden Cusimano went 2 for 2 with a triple, two RBIs and two runs scored for the Bears. Chase Lombardo added a two-run single and Brody Anderson also drove in two runs.
Gavin Burchanowski had two hits while Mason Groters and Evan Conklin each added a hit for the Wolfpack.
Frewsburg will travel to No. 1 Gowanda for a 5 p.m. Tuesday quarterfinal.
RANDOLPH COASTS PAST TIMBERWOLVES
ALLEGANY – No. 3 Randolph scored in all five innings of a 10-0 Class C prequarterfinal victory over No. 14 Cattaraugus-Little Valley.
Randall Nottingham went 2 for 4 with an RBI and a run scored while Hunter Foster doubled and scored a run for the Cardinals. Gavin Senn singled, drove in two runs and scored twice; Bryson Pitts singled, drove in a run and scored a run; Kevin McElwain singled and drove in a run; and Laiden Wojtowicz scored three times.
Aidan Taylor threw 4 â…” innings of two-hit ball with five strikeouts.
Noah Ulinger and Derek Pritchard singled for the Timberwolves.
Randolph will host No. 6 Chautauqua Lake in a 5 p.m. Tuesday quarterfinal. The Eagles beat No. 10 North Collins 9-1 in another Sunday prequarterfinal.
SILVER CREEK/FORESTVILLE COMES UP SHORT
GOWANDA – Hunter Haist went 3 for 4 with two doubles, three RBIs and three runs scored as No. 9 Akron edged No. 8 Silver Creek/Forestville 12-10 in a Class B prequarterfinal.
Jackson Schalbach went 3 for 4 with a double, an RBI and a run scored; Gavin Miller was 2 for 4 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored; and Jackson Nice tripled, drove in a run and scored a run for the Tigers.
Damon Bell doubled twice, drove in three runs and scored twice; Hunter Anderson went 2 for 3 with a double and a run scored; Caleb Kimmerly was 2 for 4 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored; and Collin Morabito doubled, drove in a run and scored a run for the Black Knights.
Trailing 12-8 entering the bottom of the seventh, Cody Neubauer reached on a two-out error and Morabito hit an RBI double before Noah Skinner walked. Kimmerly then hit a two-run double to make it 12-10, but after an intentional walk to Manny Sanchez, a popout ended the game.
Akron will travel to No. 1 JFK for a 5 p.m. Tuesday quarterfinal.
HEWES SILENCES NORTH COLLINS
NORTH COLLINS – Devin Hewes threw five shutout innings and struck out 12, including the first nine batters of the game as No. 6 Chautauqua Lake beat No. 11 North Collins 9-1 in a Class C prequarterfinal.
Michael Jauss threw the final two innings for Chautauqua Lake, striking out two, to complete a one-hitter.
Chautauqua Lake jumped ahead 4-0 in a first inning that included Logan Fuller walking, Hewes singling and Jauss reaching on an error. Greyson Wellman capped the frame with a two-run home run.
Chautauqua Lake’s other big inning came in the sixth. Jauss and Wellman singled before Landon Emery’s two-run single.
Wellman had two hits, including the home run; Hewes had two hits, including a triple; and Jauss had two hits, including a double.
Walter Ebersole doubled in the sixth inning, stole third and scored on an error for North Collins.
Chautauqua Lake will travel to No. 3 Randolph for a 5 p.m. quarterfinal Tuesday.
RED & GREEN OUSTED
NIAGARA FALLS — Anthony Littere shined at the plate and on the mound to lead Niagara Falls past Jamestown in the Class AAA semifinals 6-1.
Littere pitched six innings and gave up just four hits, struck out 10 and walked three, then hit a double and a triple for Niagara Falls. Nicholas Ligammari added a two-run home run.
Hector Montanez led Jamestown (5-14) with a double, while Ryan Engquist, Alaric Richards and Chase Bonta hit singles. Engquist was the losing pitcher after going five innings with six hits, four strikeouts and a walk.
Niagara Falls advances to the Class AAA championship against No. 1 Lancaster.
