Taylor Hurls Complete-Game Shutout For Cardinals

ELLICOTTVILLE — The Randolph baseball team scored twice in the first inning and that is all the Cardinals would need as Aiden Taylor gave up just four hits, walked three and struck out five Ellicottville Eagles in a complete-game shutout 3-0 in Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 3 action on Tuesday.

Randolph was led by Laiden Wojtowicz with a 2 RBI double, Gavin Senn connected for a double and scored, Randall Nottingham hit 2 for 2 with a run scored and Bryson Pitts scored once.

Ellicottville also received a strong performance on the mound with Rylan Benjamin throwing seven innings with four hits, three walks and 10 strikeouts. The Eagles scattered four hits with both Benjamin and Cam Mendell going 1 for 2, but Mendell lacing a double.

SPARTANS EDGE RED & GREEN

Jamestown’s seventh-inning rally came up just short, falling to Williamsville North 4-3 in an Erie County Interscholastic Conference Division 1 game.

The Red & Green trailed 4-1 heading into their last at-bat and scored a pair of unearned runs to trim the lead to 4-3 with two outs, but the tying run was left stranded at second base.

Julian Jackson led Jamestown (1-6, 0-3) with a solo home run in the first inning. Karson Milne and Chase Bonta added two apiece to support the pitching of Ryan Engquist and Carter Rizzuto.

George Klentos was the winning pitcher for the Spartans (3-2, 2-1). Brian Pickreign led the offense with a pair of hits and teammate Eamon Mouyeos added a double.

CROWELL HAS BIG DAY AT PLATE

CLYMER — Brocton/Cassadaga Valley broke open a close game with nine runs in the final two innings to beat Clymer/Sherman/Panama 12-3 in Division 2 action.

The Bulldogs led 3-2 after five innings before scoring five runs in the top of the sixth and four more in the seventh.

Jackson Crowell powered Brocton/Cassadaga Valley (1-3, 1-1) at the plate, going 2 for 5 with a double, a home run, six RBIs and two runs scored. Owen Pryll added a home run, three RBIs and three runs scored while Tanner Olmstead had a triple and two runs scored. Anthony Gatto was also 2 for 4 with two RBIs and a run scored.

Crowell earned the win on the mound, tossing five innings of one-hit ball, striking out 12 while walking five.

Johnny Abers and Micaleb Anderson singled for the Wolfpack (1-4, 1-1).

Max White took the loss, striking out eight in four innings on the mound.

SOUTHWESTERN HANGS ON VS. OLEAN

LAKEWOOD — Oscar Harris hit a three-run home run to highlight Southwestern’s 10-9 Division 1 win over Olean at Packard Field.

Harris finished 3 for 3 with a home run, a double, four RBIs and three runs scored. Lucas Genareo was 2 for 5 with a double and a run scored; Alex Watkins had two hits and two RBIs; Cooper Charles had two hits and an RBI; and Wilson Genareo singled, drove in a pair of runs and scored three times for the Trojans (2-2, 2-1).

Charles tossed four innings of five-hit ball, striking out four to earn the win.

The Huskies (3-1, 2-1) scored five runs in the top of the seventh before Wilson Genareo relieved and struck out the final two batters with the bases loaded.

NEUBAUER STRIKES OUT 10 FOR BLACK KNIGHTS

ALLEGANY — Cody Neubauer allowed three hits and four walks while striking out 10 in six innings as Silver Creek/Forestville topped Allegany-Limestone 9-1 in Division 1 action.

The Black Knights (3-3, 1-2) led 4-1 before scoring five times in the top of the sixth inning.

Manny Sanchez went 2 for 3 with a double, an RBI and three runs scored to lead the Silver Creek/Forestville offense. Dom Anders doubled while Neubauer walked twice and scored two runs.

The Gators fell to 3-6 overall and 0-3 in the league.

TABONE SHUTS DOOR FOR FREDONIA

SALAMANCA — Matt Cowan hit a two-run triple with two outs in the top of the fourth inning to tie the game and then scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch as Fredonia beat Salamanca 6-5 in Division 1 action.

The Hillbillies (5-0, 3-0) tacked on an insurance run in the fifth inning when Rocco Muscarella reached on an error and scored on Issiah Ruiz’s RBI single.

Payton Bradley led off the bottom of the fifth inning with a triple and scored on a wild pitch for the Warriors (3-2, 0-1), but Fredonia reliever Pauly Tabone retired the final nine Salamanca batters in order with seven strikeouts to earn the save.

Cowan picked up the win, striking out seven in four innings of work. Muscarella, Luka Paoletta, Brady Crawford and Colin Luce had singles for the Hillbillies. Jack Frame and Tabone drove in runs with groundouts.

Callum Farnum struck out three in four innings on the mound for the Warriors before Bradley had five strikeouts in the final three innings. Bradley finished 3 for 4 with three runs scored and an RBI at the plate.
