The Jamestown boys basketball team’s outstanding season came to an end several weeks ago, but head coach Billy Miley’s crew is still being recognized for it.
Headlining that group is senior Dominic Gonzalez, who was named the Erie County Interscholastic Conference Division 1 Player of the Year after leading the Red & Green to the Division 1 and Section VI Class AAA championships.
The 6-foot guard averaged 19.4 points, 3.8 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 2.3 steals per game as Jamestown finished 18-5 overall and 9-1 in the division, its season ending in the Far West Regional against Section V’s Fairport.
Arguably Gonzalez’s best game of his career came in the sectional final against Health Sciences where he scored 24 points, grabbed eight rebounds, dished out four assists, and had one block and one steal in a 61-55 victory.
“It was the situation,” Miley said postgame. “Being at Buffalo State, playing for a sectional title against the No. 1 team in Western New York and being in his senior year, what more do you want?”

Gonzalez’s all-round game included effectiveness from the perimeter (he shot 41% from the arc) and an uncanny ability to score on floaters in the lane, helping him to finish his career ninth on the school’s all-time scoring list with 1,142 points.
Joining Gonzalez on the ECIC Division 1 First Team is senior teammate Elijah Farmer.
The 6-5 forward averaged 16.5 points, 9.4 rebounds. 2.2 assists and 1.5 steals per game. He also was credited with 27 blocked shots and completed his career with 948 points, which is No. 13 in school history.
The other ECIC Division 1 First-Team selections are junior Greyson Goehle of Williamsville North; and junior Max Mancabelli, senior Finn Taberski and senior Brody Monaco of Orchard Park.
Second-Team choices are sophomore Chris Fagnan and sophomore Evan Morphy of Williamsville North; junior Ryan Hartwig and junior Ryan Smith of Lancaster; and senior Brody Kaufman of Clarence.
Honorable mention are senior Gavin Johnson of Jamestown, who averaged 14.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.2 steals per game; sophomore Jackson Turski and senior Jace Brinkerhoff of Clarence; and junior Carter Majchrowicz of Lancaster.
Chris Frankowski of Orchard Park is the Coach of the Year.
Gonzalez is also a First-Team defensive choice, while Farmer is a Second-Team selection.
Other First-Team defensive picks are Mancabelli; senior Nathan Arnold of Clarence; junior Aiden Chido of Frontier; sophomore Zach Harrington of Lancaster; and senior AJ Weissenburg of Williamsville North.
Second-Team defensive selections, besides Farmer, are Kaufman; senior Brayden Dunz of Frontier; junior Ben Budzinski of Lancaster; senior Connor Valiquette of Orchard Park; and junior Cal Rogers of Williamsville North.
Jamestown junior Jordan Spencer is one of six players to receive Sportsmanship Awards. The others are Turski; junior Glen Echeverria of Frontier; junior Connor Reichmuth of Lancaster; senior Weston Cummings of Orchard Park; and junior Sebastian Swiatek of Williamsville North.

Joining them are senior Player-of-the-Year Justus Kleitz of Iroquois; senior Shaun McGrath of Sweet Home; Mancabelli; and senior Adam Sarzynski of Amherst.
