Several Area Athletes Look For Podium Spots On Staten Island
STATEN ISLAND — The New York State Public High School Athletic Association Indoor Track & Field state championships began on Friday at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex on Staten Island and a pair of local relay teams competed.
The quartet of Noah Erickson, Ty Kraft, Cole Vaughn and Ethan Verbosky raced to 14th place in the 1,600-meter relay in Division 1 for Falconer/Maple Grove/Cassadaga Valley/Frewsburg/Randolph with a time of 3:26.90. The winning time was 3:18.09 by Colonie-II, just edging out Minisink Valley’s-IX pace of 3:18.57.
Jamestown placed 19th in the 800-meter relay for Division 1, as the team of Angel Martinez, Cameron Burgess, Beckett Lumia and Jorge Rivera Jr. ran to a time of 1:33.33. The winning time was run by Suffern-I at 1:27.91.
Dunkirk/Silver Creek/Forestville joins the action today with Nate Mays competing in the high jump and long jump, while fellow senior Sam Bowers runs in the 300-meter dash.
Jamestown will also have Lumia running in the 300 meters, Rivera Jr. is competing in the high jump and sophomore Tyler Tellez is among the pole vaulters.
Falconer/Maple Grove/Cassadaga Valley/Frewsburg/Randolph seniors Ethan Verbosky and Ty Kraft will compete in the 1,000 meters and 600 meters, respectively.
