Miles, Grady Moore Reach Individual Finals
Frewsburg/Southwestern/Jamestown/Falconer Will Defend 200-Yard Freestyle Relay Title
ITHACA — Frewsburg/Southwestern/Jamestown/Falconer senior Miles Moore swam a season-best time of 20.76 seconds in the 50-yard freestyle on Friday to qualify for the championship final on Saturday in the New York State Public High School Athletic Association boys swimming and diving championships at Ithaca College.
Moore placed sixth among all swimmers and is ranked fifth for NYSPHSAA competitors in the final.
Twin brother Grady is also back on Saturday in the Consolation Final after posting a time of 21.66 for 17th overall on Friday. Panama/Clymer/Sherman junior Kody Howard is an alternate for Saturday after posting a time of 21.90.
Miles added another personal best in the 100 freestyle, swimming to a pace of 46.21 for seventh overall on Friday and another spot in the Championship Final on Saturday.
Panama/Clymer/Sherman’s Howard did not qualify for the final races on Saturday after posting a time of 48.75 in the event.
Grady will also swim in a Championship Final of his own on Saturday after racing to a personal best in the 100 butterfly with a time of 50.97 to finish eighth on the day and fifth among NYSPHSAA competitors.
Junior teammate Landon Frederes is also back in the pool on Saturday as he will swim in the Consolation Final of the 100 backstroke after posting a time of 53.43.
Frewsburg/Southwestern/Jamestown/Falconer has two relays back in the pool on Saturday with the 200 medley team in the Consolation Final and the 200 freestyle relay group will attempt to defend the state title in the Championship Final.
McQuaid Jesuit of Section V came close to breaking Frewsburg/Southwestern/Jamestown/Falconer’s NYSPHSAA record in the 200 medley of 1:31.28 with a top preliminary time of 1:31.67 on Friday. The Bears will swim in the Consolation Final after the quartet of Frederes, Grady Moore, Mike Rambacher and Miles Moore raced to a time of 1:38.23 in the preliminaries.
McQuaid Jesuit is also the top seed in the 200 freestyle relay after setting both the Federation and NYSPHSAA record in the preliminary on Friday with a time of 1:23.80. Frewsburg/Southwestern/Jamestown/Falconer will be in the pool at the same time on Saturday for the Championship Final as Frederes, Rambacher, Grady Moore and Miles Moore posted a time of 1:27.87.
The finals will begin 10 a.m. on Saturday beginning with the 200 medley relay.
