JCC Baseball Begins Spring Trip With Doubleheader Sweep
WINTER HAVEN, Fla. — The winning ways for Jamestown Community College athletics continued in Florida on Tuesday, with the baseball team opening its spring trip with a two-game sweep of Minnesota State Community and Technical College at the Chain of Lakes Park Complex.
The Jayhawks sent Santino Musone to the bump in the first game, where he picked up the win after five strong innings. Jamestown CC blew the game open in the fifth inning when it plated eight runs, the final two RBIs coming off the bat of Angel Perez, who had a dynamite day at the plate. The Jayhawks took a 9-6 lead to the seventh, where they pushed three more runs home to take a six-run lead. That 12-6 advantage ended up being the final in game one of their eight games in five days in the Sunshine State.
The second game, also against the Spartans, was a nail-biter to the end. The Jayhawks fell behind early, 1-0, but the deficit didn’t last long, as sophomore Tamias Ramsey smoked the offering to deep center for an RBI double to even things up at 1-1. He was followed by fellow sophomore Matt Cardona, who drove Ramsey in with a well-placed single to shallow right-center, giving the Jayhawks a 2-1 advantage. Jamestown CC fell behind 4-2 entering the third inning before Jackson Shannon evened things up with a two-run double. Ramsey once again drove a run in with a single, and the homestanding Jayhawks jumped back out front 5-4. The game was tied 5-5 going into the bottom of the sixth inning, when Perez launched the offering to deep center for a no-doubt-about-it home run to push the Jayhawksto a 6-5 lead. On the mound, Berk Gezlev threw a well-executed complete game for the victory.
