Almost any time Jadyn Trocki steps on to a basketball court, she’s the best player on the floor.

Frewsburg’s junior guard may find her match this weekend in Troy.

Greenwich features a senior by the name of Brooke Kuzmich, who has scored more than 2,300 points in her career.

The Witches and Bears may be on a collision course for a 6 p.m. championship meeting Saturday at Hudson Valley Community College.

But first, both teams have semifinals to win.

Frewsburg will tip off its third straight trip to the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Class C final four Friday with a 10 a.m. game against Delaware Academy at Delhi inside the Edward F. McDonough Sports Complex.

The defending state champions, the Bears are led by Trocki, who is averaging 21.2 points, 5.5 assists, 4.8 rebounds, 4.5 steals and 1.8 blocked shots per game.

It’s safe to say Trocki does it all.

But despite losing four seniors from last season’s championship squad, the Bears have barely skipped a beat.

Senior Abery Harvey is averaging 15.0 points, 5.6 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.5 steals per game; sophomore Jaden Jimerson is averaging 8.8 points, 4.9 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 2.1 steals per game; and sophomore Elysse Gruber is averaging 7.2 points, 8.5 rebounds, 2.2 steals and 1.6 assists per game.

Freshmen Presleigh Stelmack and Lucy Moore also see regular time in Frewsburg’s rotation.

The Bears — the New York State Sportswriters Association’s top-ranked Class C team in the state all year — are 20-4 on the season after beating Wilson in the Section VI final and Keshequa in the Far West Regional.

Delaware Academy, which is 22-2 on the year, ranked No. 3 in the state and won a title in 2018, won the Section VI title with a 54-40 victory over Union Springs before topping West Canada Valley 58-48 in their regional last weekend.

The Bulldogs are led by 5-foot-9 freshman Danielle Ennist, who is averaging 16.1 points, 9.3 rebounds, 3.4 steals and 4.0 assists per game — all the best on the team.

Junior Tyler Abts is the team’s second-leading scorer (11.5 ppg) and top free-throw shooter (76 of 90) while junior Lexi Davis is the top 3-point threat (39 of 126).

GREENWICH VS. TUCKAHOE

Friday’s 11:45 a.m. semifinal will feature Section II champion Greenwich against Section I’s Tuckahoe, two programs that have never won a state title.

Greenwich (25-1) advanced to the final four with a 45-38 victory over Stillwater in the sectional final and then beat Section VII’s Lisbon 73-48 in a regional.

The Witches are led by Kuzmich, who scored 34 points against Lisbon and is averaging nearly 25 points per game this season. She will attend Daemen University in the fall.

Senior twin starters Bailee and Jordan Wolfe transferred to Greenwich from South Glens Falls prior to their junior years. Both are 5-foot-9 with Bailee averaging 18 points per game and Jordan averaging 15.

Greenwich lost to Millbrook in the 2023 state semifinals when Kuzmich and another senior starter, Olivia Davis, were freshmen.

Tuckahoe (19-3) won its fifth straight Section I title with a 67-50 victory over North Salem and then beat Section XI’s Pierson 55-42 in their regional.

Sophomore Juliana Manginelli was the MVP of the sectional tournament. She is averaging 10.1 points, 5.4 steals, 5.3 assists and 3.5 rebounds per game.

Sophomore Chloe Angello is the Tigers’ leading scorer at 14.5 points per game to go along with 10.1 rebounds, 6.1 assists, 2.0 steals and 1.6 blocked shots per game.

Junior Cara Doherty is averaging 7.0 points and 11.0 rebounds per game.

Silvio DiSalvatore, in his fourth season as head coach, has guided Tuckahoe to the final four the past two seasons.
