Westfield Rallies In Second Half For Win
WESTFIELD — After trailing 23-18 at halftime, No. 6 Westfield outscored No. 11 Portville 30-12 the rest of the way en route to a 48-35 Section VI Class C girls basketball prequarterfinal win Saturday afternoon.
Nahlia Douglas and Mackenzie Schumaker led the Wolverines with 16 points apiece. Schumaker scored 7 during a 16-4 third quarter while Douglas added 7 during a 14-8 fourth quarter.
“They 16 came really fast,” Westfield head coach Kyle Petersen said of the Wolverines’ third quarter. “We kept the pressure on in the fourth quarter as well.”
Westfield will now travel to No. 3 Wilson for a 6 p.m. quarterfinal Wednesday. The Lakewomen beat No. 14 Barker 82-31 on Saturday.
“I haven’t personally watched them yet. I’ve collected the film and I’ve put it together,” Petersen said. “I’m told they are great defensively, and their defense leads to scoring. I would say they are very similar to us.”
Olivia Wolfe had six steals and three assists; Sophia Wolfe had six assists and six rebounds; Douglas had six rebounds: and Schumaker had five steals Saturday.
Quinn Scott had 9 points, five rebounds and four steals; Emma Rhinehart had 9 points and three assists; and Ali Haynes grabbed 10 rebounds for the Panthers.

RANDOLPH — Ava Sears hit five of Randolph’s 11 3-pointers on her way to a game-high 21 points as the fifth-seeded Cardinals beat No. 12 Cattaraugus-Little Valley 70-17 in a Class C prequarterfinal.
Randolph will travel to No. 4 Ellicottville for a 6 p.m. quarterfinal Wednesday. The Eagles beat No. 13 North Collins 38-31 in another Saturday prequarterfinal.
Sears scored 8 points during a 19-3 first quarter and 8 more in a 23-4 second quarter for the Cardinals on Saturday.
Gianna Bowles added 13 points, seven assists and five rebounds; Lucy Conley had 11 points and four rebounds; Sears had six assists, five rebounds and three steals; Tessa Brown had four steals; and Hannah Hill grabbed seven rebounds for Randolph.
Rebekah Butcher scored 12 of the Timberwolves’ 17 points.

TO UPSET VICTORY
HOLLAND — Corrina John hit a pair of 3-pointers during a 14-5 fourth quarter as No. 15 Gowanda beat No. 2 Holland 51-39 in a Class C prequarterfinal.
John led the Panthers with 25 points, including five 3-pointers, while Halia Rivera added 11 points.
Gowanda will travel to No. 7 Cassadaga Valley for a 6 p.m. quarterfinal Wednesday. The Cougars beat No. 10 Chautauqua Lake 54-45 in another Saturday prequarterfinal.
Gowanda led 28-23 at halftime, but the Dutchwomen won the third quarter 11-9.
Jeana Dietz led Holland with 18 points.

7TH-GRADER COMES UP BIG
ELLICOTTVILLE — Seventh-grader Shiloh Miller scored all 9 of her points during a 29-18 second half as No. 4 Ellicottville rallied past No. 13 North Collins for a 38-31 Class C prequarterfinal victory.
Ande Northrup also finished with 9 points for Ellicottville, which outscored North Collins 13-6 during the third quarter to take a 22-19 lead into the final eight minutes.
Morgan Kreinheder led North Collins with 14 points.
Ellicottville will host No. 5 Randolph in a 6 p.m. quarterfinal Wednesday. The Cardinals beat No. 12 Cattaraugus-Little Valley 70-17 in another Saturday prequarterfinal.

WARRIORS PULL AWAY IN
THIRD QUARTER
SALAMANCA — Liana Jimerson scored 7 points and Maliyah Foster added 6 during a 22-4 third quarter as No. 3 Salamanca pulled away from No. 14 Medina for a 66-46 Class B prequarterfinal win.
Foster led the Warriors with 15 points to go along with two steals, two assists and two rebounds. Jimerson added 14 points, four rebounds and two assists for Salamanca, which will host No. 6 Allegany-Limestone in a 6 p.m. Wednesday quarterfinal. The Gators beat No. 11 Middle Early College/Resarch Lab 67-15 in another Saturday prequarterfinal.
“It was a solid team effort in the opening round and a big day scoring for our underclassmen,” Salamanca head coach Joe Hinman said. “We have things to clean up for next week. We know it’s hard to beat a team three times so there will be things to clean up as we prepare for the Gators.”
Freshman Ella Crouse had 14 points, four rebounds and four steals while senior Makenzie Crouse pulled down 10 rebounds, in the process grabbing the 700th of her career.
Alexa Demmer led the Mustangs with 19 points and Caliyah St. Louis added 14.
