As we approach Super Bowl 60, it’s only appropriate to ask a game-related trivia question.
Here goes:
“What do Nick Sirianni, David Hinson and Riley Larkin have in common?”
If you guessed, “all are natives of, or are connected to, Chautauqua County and all are currently employed by teams who have played, or will play, in the NFL’s biggest game,” grab a couple extra chicken wings or a handful of chips in celebration at your Super Bowl party on Sunday.
As a reminder, Sirianni, a Southwestern Central School graduate, has won one Lombardi Trophy and lost one as the head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles; and Hinson, a Jamestown High School graduate, has won three Super Bowls and lost one as the co-director of college scouting for the Kansas City Chiefs.
And Larkin?
He’s in his first season as an offensive assistant with New England, which will meet Seattle in Santa Clara, California this weekend. The grandson of William and Eileen Jowett of Bemus Point, Riley is also the son of Tom and Amy Larkin, who hail from Kent, Ohio. Amy was a standout athlete during her high school days at Maple Grove.
Riley inherited some of that athletic prowess, it appears.
A graduate of Kent Roosevelt High School, he was a three-year letter winner at John Carroll University, where he played quarterback and was a captain as a senior in 2018.
Before joining the Patriots, Riley was a member of the coaching staff at Ohio State University. In 2023, he served as an offensive assistant before being promoted in 2024 to assistant quarterbacks coach where he worked closely with quarterback Will Howard, who led the Buckeyes to its first national title since 2014 and was named the Offensive Most Valuable Player of the national championship game. Days later, New England head coach Mike Vrabel, an Ohio State alum, added Riley on the Patriots’ staff.
Prior to Ohio State, Riley was an offensive analyst at Middle Tennessee State in 2022. Before that, he spent three years coaching quarterbacks at McLean (Virginia) High School and then at Ravenwood High School in Brentwood, Tennessee.
