Stam Shines As Jamestown Improves To 10-7 On Season
CLARENCE — Sophomore Aiyanna Stam had 17 points, 14 rebounds and six steals as Jamestown beat Clarence 53-40 in Erie County Interscholastic Conference Division 1 girls basketball Tuesday.
The Red & Green (10-7, 6-5) led 31-25 at halftime, thanks in part to Stam, who scored 9 points during a 21-17 second quarter.
“The girl is at the front of the press and plays every second of every game,” Jamestown head coach Ken Ricker said. “She’s unbelievable as an athlete as only a sophomore.”
Jamestown then took control with an 11-5 third quarter as Makena Pryce scored 5 straight points late in the period.
“Makena had back-to-back buckets,” Ricker said. “From there, we pretty much kept it over 10.”
Anna Engquist had 12 points and seven rebounds while Carley Daniels had 8 points and seven assists in the win.
Alyssa Zogaria led Clarence (9-9, 6-6) with 11 points.
Jamestown will host Orchard Park on Friday to close ECIC Division 1 play and then take on St. Mary’s — the top-ranked large school in Western New York — at home Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. The Lancers feature Skylar Herington, who played the past few seasons at Randolph.
“We lost some games to the weather and they did too. We know they’re an unbelievable team. I want the girls to see and the community to see them. They are that good,” Ricker said of St. Mary’s. “Orchard Park is pretty darn good, too.”
