ORCHARD PARK — Gavin Johnson drilled seven 3-pointers on his way to a game-high 26 points to send Jamestown to a 62-47 victory over Orchard Park in an Erie County Interscholastic Conference Division 1 boys basketball game on Wednesday night.
The win, which avenged a 70-60 home loss to the Quakers three weeks ago, raised the Red & Green’s record to 11-4 overall and 8-1 in the division. Orchard Park dropped to 14-3 and 5-2.
Johnson, who shot 7 of 13 from the arc, hit four treys in the first quarter when Jamestown built a 21-6 lead, but the Quakers limited the turnover-prone Red & Green to seven second-quarter points to pull within 28-20 at intermission.
Johnson and Dom Gonzalez both canned two 3-pointers and Jordan Spencer added one in the third quarter as Jamestown led 47-34 heading into the final period.
In the fourth quarter, Orchard Park closed to within nine points on a couple occasions, but Gonzalez, Elijah Farmer and Spencer combined to make 10 of 12 free throws to keep the Quakers at bay.
Joining Johnson in double figures for Jamestown were Gonzalez with 16 points and Farmer with 12. Gonzalez and Farmer were also a collective 19 of 21 from the charity stripe. That was particularly important because the Red & Green shot just 15 of 44 from the field and committed 25 turnovers. Farmer also grabbed 13 rebounds and blocked four shots.
Weston Cummings paced the Quakers with 17 points and Brody Monaco chipped in 10.
