Paddock Named MOW Again, 8 Area Girls Punch Tickets To Albany

FREDONIA — Noli Paddock has a 33-0 record this season.

For anybody who watched the Chautauqua Lake senior this weekend, it’s easy to see why.

Wrestling at 138 pounds, Paddock dominated in four wins en route to being named the Most Outstanding Wrestler at the Section VI girls wrestling state qualifier, which wrapped up Sunday inside Fredonia State University’s Steele Hall Fieldhouse.

Entering Sunday’s semifinals with a 10-0 technical fall over Fredonia’s Kennedy Lichtenthal and a 2-minute, 4-second pin of CSAT’s Jasmine Scriven in Thursday’s quarterfinals, Paddock continued her flawless winter with a pair of 10-0 technical falls over teammate Zoey Kling and Fredonia’s Braelynn Wicks in Sunday’s semifinals and finals, respectively.

Cassadaga Valley will be sending a pair of wrestlers to the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Championships, set for Thursday, Feb. 26 at MVP Arena in Albany.

The Cougars’ Anastazia Hale kicked off the championship matches Sunday with a 6-4 decision over Eden’s Emma DellaPenta in the 94-pound final.

Hale will be joined in Albany by 100-pound Cassadaga Valley teammate Maliyah Stone, who pinned Chautauqua Lake’s Kortlyn Fairbank in 4:10 in their final.

Paddock will be joined by three teammates in the state capital.

At 107 pounds, the Eagles had two wrestlers in the final and were guaranteed the state-qualifying spot. Sherman’s Tayler Pinzok pinned teammate Tori Lombardo in one minute.

Chautauqua Lake’s Lilly Hyde won the 152-pound title via a 12-2 technical fall over Fredonia’s McKella Hodkin.

Chautauqua Lake’s Chloe Hosier finished second at 165 pounds, losing a 12-0 technical fall to Clarence’s Michaela Thomas in the championship match.

Wicks and Hodkin will both be representing Fredonia at the state tournament after winning true-second place matches. Wicks pinned CSAT’s Scriven in 1:48 while Hodkin pinned Niagara Wheatfield’s Keirstin Bazinet in 3:55.

Chautauqua Lake’s Kassidy Benedetto lost in the 94-pound championship match and wrestled to a true-second place with a 4-2 decision over Eden’s Emma DellaPenta while Fairbank finished second at 100 pounds, but Section VI was only awarded a second state-qualifying spot at 132 pounds, 138 pounds, 145 pounds, 152 pounds, 165 pounds, 185 pounds and 235 pounds.

Dunkirk’s Damarielys Cruz pinned Frewsburg’s Emelyn Campion in 18 seconds to take third place at 100 pounds.

Silver Creek’s Kimberly Bauer was pinned in 5:40 by Ken-Ton’s Mackenzie Vetter-Higgins in the final at 185 pounds. Bauer still had a chance to clinch a trip to the state meet, but was pinned by Clarence’s Ryann Berner 1:10 into the true-second place match.

Fredonia’s Lindsey Bailey lost a 10-0 technical fall to Niagara Wheatfield’s Gabriella Barone in the 114-pound final and then lost by injury default to Tonawanda’s Aria Gugino in the true-second place match.

Chautauqua Lake’s Aurora Maring was pinned by Sweet Home’s Isabelle Simonson in 5:03 in the 126-pound third-place match.

Dunkirk’s Eva Colon-DeJesus lost a 15-11 decision to Scriven in the 138-pound third-place match.

Randolph’s Maddison VanSickle was pinned by Portville’s Autumn Baker in 1:23 the third-place match at 145 pounds.

Fredonia’s Bryleigh Wicks was pinned by Springville’s Lauren Winfield in 2:24 in the third-place match at 165 pounds.

Frewsburg’s Bailey Fuller took fourth place at 185 pounds, falling in a 3-0 decision to Berner.

At 235 pounds, Dunkirk’s Jaslieen Morales-Salgado took fourth place, as Ken-Ton’s Aislyn O’Malley pinned her 54 seconds into the third-place match.
