ALBANY — Eight local girls made the trip to the second ever New York State Public High School Athletic Association girls wrestling championships at MVP Arena in Albany on Thursday and all eight girls will return home with at least one victory.

Everyone was able to make sure they did not go home empty handed, but Chautauqua Lake/Westfield/Panama/Clymer’s Noli Paddock and Chloe Hosier were a little more greedy when it came to winning as both earned spots in the semifinals of their weight classes.

After taking third place as a freshman, the sophomore Paddock has returned to states hungry for a spot on the podium again. The 138-pound 3-seed took just 1:09 in her opening match against No. 14 A Dignean of Phoenix-III before finding a pin and then Paddock’s quarterfinal match was even better with a 58 second pin over Taylor Brock of MacArthur-VIII.

Paddock lost last year in the semifinals before she wrestled back to third place, she will have the opportunity to get into the championship if she is able to knock off No. 2 Mackenzie Harbour of Shenendehowa-II.

Hosier fell behind in both of her matches at 165 pounds, but the 2-seed settled herself both times and secured a pair of first round pins. She first knocked off Makenna Eastman of Corinth-II at 2:41 and then topped Melody Medina of Bayshore-XI in 2:07 to secure a spot in the semifinals.

Hosier is on the favoring side of a 2-3 semifinal against Ava Guilmette of Shenendehowa-II.

Tayler Pinzok and Lilly Hyde both picked up wins in the opening round for Chautauqua Lake/Westfield/Panama/Clymer, but fell in their quarterfinal matches.

Pinzok began her day in the 107-pound bracket with an impressive 18-5 technical fall over Amelia Armstrong of Wayne-V, but that part was short lived as her next match was against top-seed and nationally ranked Charlie Wylie of Port Jervis-IX. Wylie showed why Sports Illustrated ranks her No. 4 in the nation at 110 pounds by pulling off an unbelievable 10-0 technical fall in just 22 seconds.

Pinzok’s bid for a spot on the podium ended in the wrestlebacks as she was pinned by Harley Eidens of Long Beach-VIII at 4:17.

Hyde began her tournament in the 152-pound bracket with an 11-0 technical fall over Ana Cartagena of Windsor-V at 4:33, but was once again ousted in the quarterfinals when injury reared its head again. In a back and forth match with Gabriella Gonzales of Phoenix-III, Hyde was pinned in the final seconds at 5:49.

However, she managed to keep her podium hopes alive with a bounce back victory against Chloe Gooshaw of Massena-X, earning an 11-0 technical fall. Hyde will continue her path to the podium against Isabella Dipaola of Kingston-IX,

Fredonia/Forestville/Silver Creek’s McKella Hodkin also picked up a first-round win at 152 pounds, defeating Katie Huang of Bethlehem-II with a pin at 2:38.

Then in her quarterfinal matchup she was tasked with wrestling top-seed Aaliyah Morrow of Bellport-XI and she lived up to the seeding with an 11-0 technical fall in exactly a minute. Hodkin’s day ended the following match as she dropped a narrow 7-5 decision against Dipaola in wrestlebacks.

Fredonia/Forestville/Silver Creek teammate Braelynn Wicks also was pitted against a top-seed, but in her opening match and was pinned by Isabella Satalino of Columbia-II in 1:31. She managed to pick up her victory in the first wrestlebacks against 9-seeded Payton Little of Oneonta-IV with a pin at 2:09.

Wicks then was pinned the following match by Jada Lee of Monroe-Woodbury-IX at 1:39, keeping her off the podium.

Falconer/Cassadaga Valley had a similar tournament with the Hillbillies, sending two girls and having the same results.

Anastazia Hale’s return to states saw her lose the opening match at 94 pounds against No. 4 Lorilye Beardsley of Avon-Geneseo-V in a 10-0 technical fall after 46 seconds.

Just like Wicks, Hale was able to bounce back in wrestlebacks, defeating Angeline Bonilla of Uniondale-VIII with a pin at 2:28. Her path to the podium was ended the following match after a 14-4 technical fall loss at 4:41 to Zoey Hernandez of Rocky Point-XI.

At the next weight class, teammate Maliyah Stone began her tournament with a 1:08 pin against Nicole Shneyder of Arlington-I. Stone was then pinned by the 100-pound 2-seed Zoey Jewett of General Brown-III in 37 seconds.

Stone was then kept off the podium when Natalia Quinteros Tejada pinned her in 2:21 of her first wrestlebacks match.
