BUFFALO — Take a bow, Elijah Farmer, Jordan Spencer, Jericho Thagard, Karson Milne and, especially, Gavin Johnson.
For six minutes spanning the third and fourth quarters of Thursday’s Section VI Class AAA semifinal, that Jamestown quintet not only held their own against Niagara Falls with star guard Dominic Gonzalez on the bench with four fouls, but they also extended their lead over the Wolverines.
And upon his return to the court, Gonzalez and his teammates had the best view in the house as Johnson turned in one of the finest postseason quarters in program history as he poured in 17 of his 24 points in the final eight minutes to send the second-seeded Red & Green to a 64-51 victory over the Wolverines, the No. 3 seed, at Buffalo State Sports Arena.
The win, which improved Jamestown’s record to 17-4, vaults it into the championship game a week from today against No. 1 Health Sciences, (18-2) an 83-57 winner over No. 4 Lancaster. Tip-off for that contest will be 8 p.m.
Johnson, in particular, probably can’t wait for that return trip to Buffalo State.

For the final six minutes last night, he performed like he owned the place.
With Jamestown leading 42-35, Johnson scored 10 straight points, including back-to-back 3-pointers, to extend the Red & Green’s lead to 52-38 with 3:57 remaining and Niagara Falls never got closer than 10 points the rest of the way. And Gonzalez, upon returning to the court, helped cement the victory with a floater in the lane and a pair of free throws, before Johnson put an exclamation point on his career night with two buckets, the final one his third trey of the fourth quarter.
Joining Johnson in double figures were Gonzalez with 19 points and Farmer with 11. Milne chipped in 8.
For the Wolverines, D’Andre Lewis led the way with 20 points and Louis Porter added 11, but despite holding a 35-29 rebounding edge their biggest lead was only 4-0 to start the game. Forced to shoot from the perimeter much of the night, Niagara Falls didn’t have much success against Jamestown’s 2-3 zone.
Johnson was in a pretty good zone, too.
NOTES: The Red & Green shot 21 of 44 from the floor compared to 18 of 51 for the Wolverines. … Johnson was 7 of 13 from the floor, Gonzalez was 7 of 12 and Farmer made all three shots he took against a Niagara Falls’ defense which focused much of its attention on the latter pair … Farmer also grabbed nine rebounds and had two steals, and Milne added seven boards. … Jamestown was also stout from the foul line, connecting on 17 of 20 attempts. Niagara Falls was 10 of 17.
