Frewsburg Rolls Into Class C Semifinals

FREWSBURG — Jaden Jimerson and Abery Harvey had 6 points apiece during a 17-0 first quarter to jump-start No. 1 Frewsburg to a 64-38 win over No. 9 Maple Grove in a Section VI Class C girls basketball quarterfinal Wednesday.

Jimerson had 22 points, three assists, three rebounds and two steals; Jadyn Trocki had 19 points, six assists and three steals; Presleigh Stelmack had 10 points, seven rebounds and two steals; and Harvey had 9 points, five steals and four rebounds for the Bears. Elysse Gruber grabbed a team-high nine rebounds.

Bry Cornell led the Red Dragons with 12 points and Alex Halstrom had 9.

Frewsburg will take on No. 5 Randolph in the 6 p.m. semifinal next Thursday at Jamestown Community College.

SEARS GETS HOT FOR CARDINALS

ELLICOTTVILLE — Ava Sears scored 19 of her game-high 29 points during the middle two quarters as No. 5 Randolph pulled away from No. 4 Ellicottville for a 61-34 Class C quarterfinal win.

The Cardinals outscored the Eagles 40-19 in the second and third quarters.

Gianna Bowles had 10 points, 10 steals, seven assists and five rebounds; Ryanne Bushey had 10 points and seven rebounds; and Tessa Brown had three assists for Randolph.

Ande Northrup and Teaghan Finn had 8 points apiece for the Eagles.

The Cardinals will take on No. 1 Frewsburg in the 6 p.m. semifinal next Thursday at Jamestown Community College. The Bears won both regular-season meetings between the teams.

LAKEWOMEN HOLD OFF WESTFIELD

WILSON — No. 3 Wilson ended the third quarter on an 8-0 run and did not relinquish the lead in the fourth quarter, beating No. 6 Westfield 38-33 in a Class C quarterfinal

The Wolverines trailed by one at halftime before opening the third quarter on a 5-0 run. But that lead was gone by the start of the final eight minutes.

We just kind of ran out of gas a little bit. We played hard the whole time,” Westfield head coach Kyle Petersen said. “A couple of bounces didn’t go our way. That’s basketball.”

Sophia Wolfe led the Wolverines with 11 points and three assists; Olivia Wolfe had 10 points, four steals and two assists; Mackenzie Schumaker scored 8 points to go along with six rebounds and two steals.

Rowan Simpson led the Lakewomen with 12 points.

Wilson will take on No. 7 Cassadaga Valley in the 7:45 p.m. semifinal next Thursday at Jamestown Community College.

DEBO HAS ANOTHER BIG GAME

SINCLAIRVILLE — Four days after establishing a career high, Maddie Debo was at it again.

The Cassadaga Valley freshman scored a career-high 31 points to go along with 13 rebounds, two steals and two assists as No. 7 Cassadaga Valley beat No. 15 Gowanda 66-48 in a Class C quarterfinal.

Breonna Hopkins added 15 points, 14 rebounds and four assists for the Cougars.

Corinna John led the Panthers with 30 points and Halia Rivera scored 10.

Cassadaga Valley will take on No. 3 Wilson in the 7:45 p.m. semifinal next Thursday at Jamestown Community College. The Lakewomen beat No. 6 Westfield 38-33 in another Wednesday quarterfinal.

IRWIN NETS CAREER HIGH

SHERMAN — Freshman Ava-Kay Irwin came off the bench to hit three of her five 3-pointers during a 17-5 first quarter to jump-start No. 4 Sherman to a 70-28 Class D quarterfinal victory over No. 5 Clymer.

Irwin finished with a career-high 17 points. The Wildcats tied a single-game record with 14 3-pointers, which they set last year against Clymer.

Emmersen Crawford led Sherman with 24 points and 10 steals to go along with five assists and four rebounds. Baya Oehlbeck had 12 points and a team-high six assists; Carlie Gable had 9 points, five assists and four rebounds; and Madison Emory had seven steals.

Alyssa Pratt and Izzy Barton had 6 points apiece to lead the Pirates. Elli Bodamer grabbed 10 rebounds and Hannidy Goetzinger pulled down eight.

The Wildcats will take on No. 1 Panama in the 6 p.m. semifinal next Wednesday at Jamestown Community College. The Panthers won both regular-season meetings between the teams.

SLIWA BECOMES HORNETS’ BEST

FORESTVILLE — Carilene Sliwa became Forestville’s all-time leading scorer — boy or girl — as the third-seeded Hornets beat No. 6 Pine Valley 63-22 in a Class D quarterfinal.

Sliwa scored 8 points in the first quarter and 11 in each of the middle two quarters before scoring 9 in the fourth for a total of 39 points. Her final point gave her 1,469 for her career, passing 2005 graduate Matt Duliba’s record of 1,468.

Sliwa also had 16 steals while Ingrid Gibson had 10 rebounds and five steals for the Hornets.

Kendal Herman led the Panthers with 10 points.

Forestville will take on No. 2 Franklinville in the 7:45 p.m. semifinal next Wednesday at Jamestown Community College. The Panthers won both regular-season meetings between the teams.

CROUSE POWERS WARRIORS

SALAMANCA — Freshman Ella Crouse scored a career-high 25 points as No. 3 Salamanca knocked off No. 6 Allegany-Limestone 66-49 in a Class B quarterfinal.

The win advances the Warriors (17-5) into the semifinals at 2 p.m. Saturday against No. 2 Southwestern at Dods Hall at Fredonia State.

Also finishing in double figures for Salamanca, which scored 38 points in the second half, were Makenzie Crouse with 13 and Kynleigh Wass with 11.

For the Gators (15-7), Emerson Ortego led the way with 15 points and Maddie Kahm chipped in 13.
