Frewsburg, Panama Girls Earn No. 1 Seeds
Frewsburg and Panama are local No. 1 seeds in the Section VI girls basketball postseason, which gets underway Friday.
The top-seeded Bears are the only team in the Class C bracket that will have a bye into the Wednesday, Feb. 25 quarterfinals.
In prequarterfinals Saturday, No. 9 Maple Grove will travel to No. 8 Silver Creek, No. 13 North Collins will visit No. 4 Ellicottville, No. 12 Cattaraugus-Little Valley will go to No. 5 Randolph, No. 15 Gowanda will visit No. 2 Holland and No. 6 Westfield will host No. 11 Portville.
All of those winners will play in quarterfinals Wednesday, Feb. 25 with the only established site being Frewsburg, which will host the Maple Grove/Silver Creek winner.
Class C semifinals are set for Thursday, March 5 at Jamestown Community College with the final Saturday, March 7 at the Physical Education Complex.
In the six-team Class D bracket, the top-seeded Panthers and No. 2 Franklinville have byes into Wednesday, March 4 semifinals at Jamestown Community College.
In quarterfinals Wednesday, Feb. 25, No. 4 Sherman hosts No. 5 Clymer and No. 3 Forestville hosts No. 6 Pine Valley.
The Class D final is set for Saturday, March 7 at the Physical Education Complex.
Southwestern is the No. 2 seed, Salamanca is the No. 3 seed and Falconer is the No. 15 seed in Class B.
The second-seeded Trojans will host the 15th-seeded Golden Falcons in a Saturday prequarterfinal while the third-seeded Warriors will host No. 14 Medina.
Prequarterfinal winners will play in Wednesday, Feb. 25 quarterfinals. The Class B semifinals are Saturday, Feb. 28 at Fredonia State University, which will also host the Thursday, March 5 final.
Jamestown is the No. 4 seed in Class AAA and has a bye into the Thursday, Feb. 26 semifinals at Buffalo State University where the Red & Green will take on No. 1 West Seneca.
The other Class AAA semifinal is No. 3 Lancaster vs. No. 2 Niagara Falls. The Class AAA final is set for Friday, March 6 at Buffalo State University.
In Class A2, No. 7 Fredonia will host a Friday prequarterfinal against No. 10 Tonawanda. The winner will travel to No. 2 Buffalo Academy of Science for a Tuesday, Feb. 24 quarterfinal. The Class A2 semifinals are Saturday, Feb. 28 at Buffalo State University and the final is Wednesday, March 4.
In Class A1, No. 11 Dunkirk will travel to No. 6 Pioneer for a Friday prequarterfinal. If the Marauders win, they will travel to No. 3 Lake Shore for a Tuesday, Feb. 24 quarterfinal. The Class A1 semifinals are set for Friday, Feb. 27 at Buffalo State University, which will also host the Wednesday, March 4 final.
There are no local teams in Class AA. Amherst is the No. 1 seed. The final is set for Sunday, March 1 at Buffalo State University.
