Eagles Go 0-2 At State Dual Meet

SYRACUSE — The Chautauqua Lake/Westfield/Panama/Clymer wrestling team suffered a pair of losses at the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Dual Meet Championships on Saturday at the SRC Arena and Events Center.
In Round 1, the Eagles dropped a 39-32 decision to Sachem North of Section XI and, after a bye in Round 2, they fell to eventual champion Massapequa of Section VIII 46-21.
The Eagles’ Thandon Bensink turned in a fine tournament performance at 132 pounds, recording two falls. Against Sachem North, he pinned Nicholas Delari in 1:10 and against Massapequa he flattened Luke Anderson at the 5:04 mark.
Also recording pins for the Eagles were Chester Machemer (103 pounds), Zander Lombardo (118 pounds), Caleb Szymanowski (190 pounds) and Colton Hamilton (215 pounds) against Sachem North; and Chase Shirley (103 pounds) against Massapequa. Meanwhile, Toby Watson (165 pounds) recorded an 11-0 major decision against Sachem North.
Twelve teams competed in both Division 1 and Division 2. Each division was divided into four three-team pools. The top team from each pool advanced to the semifinals.

In Division 1, Shenandehowa of Section II defeated Webster Schroeder of Section V 41-21 in one semifinal, while Massapequa edged Minisink Valley of IX 31-30 in the other semifinal. In the title match, Massapequa defeated Shenendehowa 42-21.
Chautauqua Lake/Westfield/Panama/Clymer had earned a berth at the state dual meet by virtue of a dominating performance earlier this season at the Section VI Division 1 duals that included wins over Grand Island (65-17), Lancaster (66-12) and Niagara Falls (55-21).

KEN-TON TOURNAMENT
LITTLE, HARDY SHINE
BUFFALO — Highlighted by a second-place finish from Zachary Little, Jamestown finished eighth in the Ken-Ton Tournament at Kenmore West High School.
Wrestling at 118 pounds, Little posted a 2-1 record. He pinned Ian Weis of Hamburg at 1:04 and then recorded a major decision (11-2) over William Martinez of Niagara Falls before losing to Blake Donohue of Attica-Batavia via pin at 3:46. Teammate Drew Bloomquist (175) was 4-2 on the day and placed fourth.
Salamanca’s Kasen Hardy claimed a title at 285 pounds as the Warriors finished 16th.
