Curling Leagues

Week 6 of the Northwest Arena Winter Backyard Curling League proved to be chaotic, with numerous upsets and new teams at the top of their division.

BUD LIGHT MONDAY 5:40 LEAGUE

It was a night of demolition for Vince Joy, Ben Caldwell and Better Than Last Year. They showed no mercy with wins over Drunken Sliders 58-21 and Shoeless Joe’s Pub 52-27.

Curling Hares climbed the ladder with Julie Johnson and Bob Rich leading the way against Fruit of the Brooms 49-41 and Drunken Sliders 57-45.

Tim Bonner and Mike Stevenson constructed a solid outing for Gren’s Growlers. They executed the sweep by taking down Jimmy Shimmey’s 45-44 and CMC Cleaning 29-25.

Rich Tyger and Shoeless Joe’s Pub toppled The Rolling Stones 35-33.

Dane Johnson and The Rolling Stones still hold the No. 2 seed after blowing out Kubota Krew 55-33.

Fruit of the Brooms finished off CMC Cleaning 43-32 with Dave Mays in the driver’s seat.

Andy Diehl Curling Cousins pulled away from Gemstones 39-31.

Gemstones countered the loss with a 42-36 double-overtime victory over Cold as Ice. Sue Vincent delivered the game winner.

Nancy Welker caught fire for Kubota Krew in a shootout with TRCurlers 52-48.

Nate Ploetz and TRCurlers rebounded with a 50-37 ambush of Cold as Ice.

Doris Hale and Jimmy Shimmey’s danced their way to a 30-28 win over Curling Cousins.

BUD LIGHT MONDAY 6:40 LEAGUE

Bottomland Bandits broke out of a three-way tie and are now in sole possession of first. Denton Holthouse and Jason Stewart captained the ship against Slice Mafia 30-24 and Rock Slide 32-25.

Dan Challingsworth and Adolph Avery carried Rand Machine back to the .500 mark in victories against Ice Holes 23-13 and Curl Jam 26-14.

Jesse Lees, Brennan Russell and NAME picked up the pace by knocking off Frosty Curlers 40-23 and stifling Pickle Pushers 31-19.

Sip n Sliders had to grind out a pair of close calls for a perfect outing. After Kevin Carlson made the difference in overtime against Pickle Pushers 41-38, Terry Norris took charge versus War Vets 31-28.

Ryan Deppas and Curl Jam are still near the top after putting away Rookies Mafia 45-34.

Missy O’Conner and Rookies Mafia picked up a resume-boosting win over Tree Huggers 35-32.

However, Dan Bowman and Tree Huggers left previously first-place Frosty Curlers flabbergasted, handing them a 35-32 loss.

Nick Rein and Slice Mafia disarmed the Stones 2.0 offense in a 30-8 finish.

James Sharpe and Ice Holes also turned it on versus Stones 2.0 47-35.

Dave Hillebert and War Vets were firing on all cylinders against Rock Slide 45-30.

BUD LIGHT MONDAY 7:40 LEAGUE

Stark Gravel has their sights set on the top seed heading into the final week. Aiden Melquist and Aden Froah clutched up once again to help take down Lakeshore East 34-25 and Frozen Assets 30-28.

Mark Lindstrom and Dennis Palermo read the ice well for Lakeshore Paving in conquests of Home Despots 24-18 and Chillbillies 40-30.

Jake Stelmack couldn’t miss as Chillbillies cruised by Las Rocas Grandes 51-33.

Scott Axelsom anchored the Frozen Assets defense versus the Rock Sliders 34-12.

Jerry Feldt displayed an all-around performance to push Rock Sliders past Lakeshore East 24-14.

Jan Brown and Las Rocas Grandes sent Home Despots packing 54-22.

RAVEN & RUNE

TAVERN WEDNESDAY 5:30 LEAGUE

John Pincaro and Mike Wissman have built a comfortable lead in the standings for 12 Ounce Curls. They’re staring down a regular season title after finishing off Geriatric Curlers 38-29 and Slone Melhuish 46-36.

Daryl Damcott and Chris Maggio engineered a perfect night as Head for the Mountains defeated Legion of Broom 42-32 and MARKSMEN 47-40.

Knuckle Draggers pulled off two photo finishes against We’ve Got the Stones 49-46 and Ice Holers 25-22. Bob Drake and Ron Hallenbaugh were dubbed co-MVP’s.

Mary Bosek and Trish McClennan led a scorching GWS offense to victory versus Geriatric Curlers 51-48 and We Love Beer 53-51.

Kurt Eimiller and Slone Melhuish held off Stone Cold Maidens 36-28.

Nate Thornton and Ice Holers got the best of J-1 Auto 39-34.

J-1 Auto rallied around Nate Ford in a 45-44 nailbiter versus Had a Few.

Adam Irgang and Legion of Broom made a tough night worse for Had a Few 40-36.

Matt Beebe and We’ve Got the Stones breezed by Stone Cold Maidens 48-32.

Kate Coswell and MARKSMEN fought off a late surge from We Love Beer, 46-41 was the the final.

RAVEN & RUNE

TAVERN WEDNESDAY 6:30 LEAGUE

The Brush Offs hold the first-place tiebreaker thanks to their electrifying offense. This week, Pat Smith and Steve Shelters highlighted the defense against Got Stones 28-22 and The Ice Men 37-28.

Team No Names is breathing down their neck heading into Week 7. Nate Donisi and Cade Egan helped acquire wins over Got Stones 32-23 and 12 oz. Curlers 19-16.

Bill Anderson and Chris D’Angelo made house one a permanent home for In the House. They defended their territory and waved goodbye to Curls Gone Wild 30-27 and Stuart Tool & Die 23-22.

Curling Me Softly completed their first sweep of the season behind Pete Pillitteri and Steve Anderson Jr. These two much-needed victories came against Smokin Rocks 38-23 and Ice Ice Baby 22-17.

Mike Nygren and The Ice Men survived a scare from Margarita Madness 47-41.

Dylan Matteson made things look effortless as 12 oz. Curlers shut down Perfect Stones 34-19.

Cindy Panebianco and Perfect Stones pulled out a defensive struggle with Stuart Tool & Die 18-17.

Karen Rhodes and Nuttin Buttons left Curls Gone Wild stunned 31-25.

Jason Britt and Smokin Rocks took down Margarita Madness 42-39.

Jason and Cindy Fawcett combined forces as Ice Ice Baby upset Nuttin Buttons 29-28 in a classic.

RAVEN & RUNE TAVERN WEDNESDAY 7:30 LEAGUE

Stones & Cones are one week away from being the first 14-0 regular season team in backyard curling history. Eric and Jen Scolton made light work of Rock Blockers 56-27 and Hit n Miss 44-34.

Brandon Rowley, Matt Storms and Flintstones are eyeing that No. 2 seed after putting away Hillbilly Sliders 34-27 and Barney’s Hoof Trimming 39-37.

Tammy Hallquist put QUEST on her back in conquests of Haggy’s 4 Below 33-27 and HCH Interiors 24-15.

Ruth Kriese, Franni Carlson and Sub Zero cooled down Rock Blockers 44-18 and Copy Cats 21-17.

Michelle “Bullseye” Blair was back at it again this week for On the Rocks. She made things look like clockwork versus Sheet Faced 24-19 and HCH Interiors 43-21.

Darren Anderson and Barney’s Hoof Trimming are still in a good spot after ambushing Copy Cats 39-34.

Katy Lord and Hillbilly Sliders thumped Sheet Faced 43-24.

Tiffany Whize had her number called by Haggy’s 4 Below against Six Stones & a Stick 25-19.

Julia Mead and Hit n Miss added insult to injury for Six Stones & a Stick in an 18-11 slugfest.

RYAN DEPPAS/LEGEND GROUP 4:30 LEAGUE

Tracy’s Dog took firm control of the Friday “Happy Hour” Division and remains undefeated, with one week remaining in the regular season as they took care of second place 2 Cups & a Curl 51-50 in a classic as “super sub” Mike Paterniti stepped in slide like a champion. In their opener, they knocked off the third place Snow Good at This 54-47.

2 Curls and a Cup’s first game showed promise as Zach Haller guided the team over Cold Beer Here 57-43.

Frost Bitten Twice Shy picked up two wins behind strong play from Brenda and Buddy Degnan, as they defeated the Bemus Sliders 45-36 and Sweeping Beauties 62-42.

The Bemus Sliders narrowly slipped by the Bemus Boulders 46-44, as David Boughton was tremendous in the clutch.

Curl Jam started off their night with a 50-48 barn burner over the Bemus Boulders, as Andy Horner led the way. They couldn’t keep it going in the second game as they lost to Snow Good at This 41-33, as Anna Dibble showed off her fancy stickwork.

Sweeping Beauties came away with a win over Lions & Bears 42-39, as Chuck Ludwig was on the “button” all game long.

Bud and Nancy Welker had a great “happy hour” as they knocked off Curlew in overtime 39-37 in their first game and then Lions & Bears 38-17 in their second.
