HOUGHTON — Three local boys were winners at the Section VI Varsity Select Meet No. 1 on Saturday at Houghton University’s Kerr-Pegula Field House

Falconer/Randolph/Frewsburg/Maple Grove senior Ethan Verbosky won the 600 meters in 1:25, Dunkirk/Silver Creek/Forestville senior Nathan Mays won the high jump at 6 feet and Jamestown sophomore Tyler Tellez tied for first in the pole vault at 11 feet, 3 inches.

Falconer/Randolph/Frewsburg/Maple Grove’s boys took second in the 3,200-meter relay (8:53.98) while Salamanca sophomore Jamila Nelthrope was second in the 300-meter dash (43.28).

Third-place finishes were turned in by: Jamestown senior Jorge Rivera Jr. in the high jump (5-10), Salamanca senior Evan Spruce in the shot put (42-5.5), Falconer/Randolph/Frewsburg/Maple Grove junior Sydney Simmons in the 55-meter hurdles (9.17), Fredonia/Westfield sophomore Alessandra Bugaj in the triple jump (33-2) and Fredonia/Westfield junior Callie Draggett in the shot put (28-11).

Dunkirk/Silver Creek/Forestville senior Samuel Bowers was fourth in the 300-meter dash (37.14).

Jamestown senior Wyatt Olmstead placed fifth in the 3,200 meters (10:33.78), Dunkirk/Silver Creek/Forestville’s girls were fifth in the 1,600-meter relay (4:30.92), Dunkirk/Silver Creek/Forestville junior Abigail Gawron placed fifth in the shot put (27-11.5), Fredonia/Westfield freshman Jordan Morris was fifth in the weight throw (30-8) and Mays tied for fifth in the pole vault (10-6).

The remaining top-10 finishes locally included: Jamestown junior Troy Keefe (sixth, shot put, 41-4), Dunkirk/Silver Creek/Forestville sophomore Leah Mays (sixth, 1,000 meters, 3:19.04), Fredonia/Westfield senior Mariella Russo (tied for sixth, high jump, 4-8), Simmons (tied for seventh, pole vault, 8-6), Dunkirk/Silver Creek/Forestville junior Emily Bain (seventh, 600 meters, 1:50.74), Dunkirk/Silver Creek/Forestville senior Hanan Mohamad Narvaez (seventh, 1,500 meters, 5:22.25), Falconer/Randolph/Frewsburg/Maple Grove senior Ty Kraft (eighth, 1,000 meters, 2:49.38), Falconer/Randolph/Frewsburg/Maple Grove senior Brea Rubrecht (eighth, weight throw, 29-5), Salamanca senior Xazavier Escobar (ninth, 300-meter dash, 37.81), Dunkirk/Silver Creek/Forestville (ninth, 800-meter relay, 1:42.23), Dunkirk/Silver Creek/Forestville senior Yeriel Gutierrez (tied for ninth, long jump, 19-6), Falconer/Randolph/Frewsburg/Maple Grove girls (ninth, 3,200-meter relay, 12:01.70), Bugaj (ninth, long jump, 15-3), Jamestown freshman Lucy Hockenberry (tied for ninth, pole vault, 7-9), and Dunkirk/Silver Creek/Forestville girls (10th, 800-meter relay, 2:02.24), Franklinville/Ellicottville sophomore Mya Sullivan (10th, shot put, 26-9), and Salamanca junior Kylynne Day (10th, weight throw, 27-4).
