Panama Girls Upend Sherman

PANAMA — The Panama girls basketball team switched its defense heading into the final period of action against Sherman and that decision sparked a big quarter to send the Panthers past the Wildcats 48-45 in Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 2 action on Monday.

“We switched our defenses up and they started to turn the ball over a bit and we got hot,” Panama head coach Chris Dole said about the win. “When we got the ball on offense we started going into the post. It was one of those classic Panama-Sherman games.”

Kiera Loberg paced Panama (7-4, 3-1) with 20 points, five rebounds and three steals, Jessica Lyon added 15 points and eight rebounds, Brooke Warner had two assists, McKenna Kolstee had nine rebounds, four blocks and two assists and Kiersten Olson added two assists.

Sherman (3-7, 2-2) was led by Baya Oehlbeck with 25 points, two steals and five rebounds, Bria Palmatier collected nine rebounds and two steals, Jayne Chambers reeled in eight rebounds and Carlie Gable made four assists and three steals.
