Before his team had broken much of a sweat Thursday night, Jamestown basketball coach Billy Miley burned a timeout. Trailing 10-2 wasn’t the way he had the first three minutes drawn up, especially at McElrath Gymnasium.

And then it got worse, as Lancaster eventually pushed its advantage to 17-6.

After that, though, it was all Jamestown.

Over the course of the next 10 1/2 minutes, the Red & Green outscored the Legends 37-4, en route to a convincing 74-48 victory in an Erie County Interscholastic Conference Division 1 contest.

The win improved Jamestown’s record to 9-3 overall and 6-1 in the league, while Lancaster dropped to 7-7 and 1-4.

During that run, the Red & Green drilled eight 3-pointers — four by Elijah Farmer and two apiece by Dom Gonzalez and Gavin Johnson. Armed with a 43-21 lead at halftime, Jamestown cruised the rest of the way.

“I knew it was impressive,” Miley said. “It’s amazing how your offense clicks when you’re getting after it at the defensive end. … It goes hand in hand. Our defense was the springboard for our offense.”

Farmer finished with 25 points (on 10 of 12 shooting) to go along with nine rebounds, two blocks and two steals; Gonzalez collected 18 points (on 7 of 12 shooting), six assists and four rebounds; and Johnson chipped in 12 points, six rebounds, two assists and two steals.

Furthermore, Miley received contributions from virtually everyone, leaving him pretty happy heading into Saturday night’s game against Nichols in the Centercourt Classic at St. Joseph’s Collegiate Institute.

“It’s the ultimate team game,” he said, “but everybody has their definite roles, and when everybody does their role really well, the team looks good, and I thought we did that tonight.”

Zack Harrington led Lancaster with 12 points, but the visitors shot just 19 of 57 from the floor compared to 29 of 56 for the Red & Green.

Now it’s on to St. Joe’s on Saturday for an 8 p.m. tip-off against Nichols.

“They’re tough,” Miley said. “They score a lot of points and have a lot of guys who can shoot it.”

NOTES: Through last night’s game, Gonzalez has 950 career points, while Farmer sits at 787. … Jamestown’s game on Saturday will follow the 6:15 p.m. contest between Health Science and Canisius.
